The wind was blowing 25 mph out of the south, and it was cloudy with a threat of rain, perfect spinnerbait weather for me! I headed out to a pond in my area that I haven't fished in about a year. The water was very clear, and the wind died down briefly. First cast with a jerkbait resulted in a nice 3 pounder! It was going to be a good day. The wind cranked back up, so I grabbed my spinnerbait rod armed with the new Berkley Power spinnerbait in a double willow subtle shad pattern. It worked and I started catching one solid fish after another. My excitement was dashed when I hooked into a 3 pounder and my spinnerbait broke in half! Dang it!

I switched to a spinnerbait that I have extreme confidence in, a Booyah Covert double willow in white. It worked and I started catching them again along a windblown bank, good ones too! I caught 11 in the pond then switched areas to another nearby pond which was a short drive away.

Once I got there, I began catching one big fish after another. It was then that I did a rookie mistake, I didn't retie after catching a big one. I casted my spinnerbait along the shoreline and then she hit! It was a big fish too! I fought her back and forth and could get a good look at her in the clear water. She was about an 8 pounder! She took a surge and then snap! My line broke! Dang it, I should've retied! My line was all frayed.

I switched to a Nichols Pulsator double willow spinnerbait in a bluegill color, and it was epic. Every fish that I caught was a good one. I fished around the pound and got to a point where I wore the spinnerbait out. I didn't want to chance it breaking in half, so I switched to a War Eagle double willow in a silver shad color, and it worked too.

I ended up with 31 bass with most of fish going 4 to 5 lbs. The biggest 3 were cookie cutter identical fish, each weighing 5.99 lbs. believe it or not! It was the best day that I've ever had on a spinnerbait for number of quality fish. It was the perfect spinnerbait conditions, windy, cloudy, with a threat of rain.

Time to order some more spinnerbaits!
