Lake Ontario Early C & R season

Back from FLA and took advantage of the short C&R season (closes May8).  I have got out a few times these last 3 years (when it was first introduced in 2021).
I am amazed at how few people around here do so. I was by myself all day. After some 1st time in the water boat issues I got at it around noon.  Water temp was 51F, sunny skies, slight breeze, air temp was 60F.
Broke off a big smallie almost right away on a smal keitech. Then caught the LM in the pic on a jerkbait. Had another pop off on the swimbait, then landed the tank of a smallie in the pic next.  She came out of the water once and pulled drag for a bit before I got her in the net.  I'd love to tell you what she weighed but I didn't have a fresh battery for my scale.
The rest of the day it was cycling between swimbait and jerkbait, all within 200 yds around cement piers IN 5-8 FOW. None of the bites were agressive,justweight on the line.
2 pike caught. One stole a $20 jerkbait but most of the 15 caught were LM.
I will get out a couple more times before the season ends and  have to wait til late June to target bass again around here.

Great job my friend.  Enjoy the summer it will be a lot more pleasant than our hot humidity!  Nice fish in those pics.

Nice catching Bryn. Matt, Pudge and I are headed to Brockville Ontario on the St Lawrence to fish from the 5th to the end of your new season. Total new part of the river for me. New water new season.
