Any Bill Lewis Rat-L-Trap Users ?

For those who use a lipless crank bait Bill Lewis Rat-L-Trap (especially in the Fall) - what are your favorite colors and sizes ?

This is a Classic success lure so yes I use one. I have 2 colors I use  Chrome / Blue   and  Gold / Black.  That is it for me.

I never threw them that much but silver and silver/blue were what I used.

In the fall I throw the 3/4 and 1 oz. I feel matching the hatch size wise is more important than color so I basically stick with a flashy chrome or gold on sunny days/ clear water or a flat color like white or chartreuse if it's cloudy.

The 2 exceptions for me are:

1 - Dirty to muddy water I'll throw red or orange sometimes with a yellow belly ( I think they call it hot tomato or hot tamale or something like that).

2. A perch color seems to work in a lot of different water conditions so I tend to throw that a lot too.

Usually 1/4 oz to 1/2 oz. My favorite ones are the classic chrome/blue and the gold/black. My son has been catching them on the gizzard shad one lately.

I like the Booyah Hard Knocker which is similar. My go to is black and chrome and black and gold. 1/2 oz.

Chrome with Blue or Black Back.  Here in Texas you'd better have a few Rayburn Red Crawfish colors for Spring time fishing

They are a fish caller! I use both 1/2oz and 1oz and mostly Chrome Blue Back. I also use Red Craw and Chrome Green at times.

You should also consider water color when buying baits.  In the Northeast, most of the water is tannic, which makes gold a good choice.  Gold with a black or green back is a good starting point  In the spring I always start with a red, never have much luck, but someday, and fire tiger.

I forgot to mention the red craw ones. I use those in the spring.

Shad are largest in the fall/winter. In the Ozarks, I use 3/4 oz. to 1 and 1/4 oz. I crank or yo-yo the 3/4 oz. and vertical jig the larger lure. My best colors at this time are chrome/blue, chrome/black and bright white.

1/2 ounce in chrome/blue and red craw, Delta red and Rayburn red.

We live on anything chrome around here, I've busted out the sleeper Smokey Joe many times when they get off the silver. As the water gets very cold we lean into the reds.

If you don't have a trap tied on here in Louisiana, you're not catching all the fish you could be.

I'd agree with most aground here anything chrome, pick a color for the back or solid chrome. The only other variation I use are reds.

To round out my Blue / Chrome - I've added a Black / Gold , Flat Shad color and a Red / Orange ... This should serve me pretty well to get started with .
