Day two of the championship. Thought I'd start in the Ames Basin area and fish some grass for a bit, after about an hour an only one slot fish on a buzz bait I moved to some pads that have produced in the past but nothing. About 10 I moved to single trees and duck blinds, I should have started on them and had plans to but a front was moving in and I though just maybe the shallow bite might pick up. Anyway after moving out and pitching a jig to way out trees I caught my first one at just over five pounds, then a couple slot fish. Shortly after that the front hit, waves got to about 3 foot and rain was pretty intense. My old ass couldn't hardly stay on the front of the boat so I headed for cover. It passed about 1:30 I got to get back out in the spread outs for almost an hour and a half before heading in and managed another over at 4.5 and a couple more slots. If I would have stayed out there I think I could have managed another over at least and that would have put me in top three for sure. Coulda woulda shouda, bottom line is you have to weigh a limit or you can hang it up, two fish won't make the grade. I did pull out 6th and got a check so that's bonus....

Lake is low, water temps are running in the 70's, weather was great to start then turned nasty for about two hours then got great again. We had two 18 pound stringers weighed in, on a four fish string that's pretty decent.

Congrats to my team tournament partner Brian for the win, he put together two solid days of fishing, you'd think he'd help his pard out but not with cash is on the line  ~roflmao

Good job on getting a check! Seems like a lot of different weather patterns going on that day for sure.

Man! That sounds like it turned into one of those tournaments where you're glad to be back at weigh in. Caddo gets hella rough out there when that wind picks up, sometimes it's the wise move to go find a protected cove, check or no check. I know someone that got blown into a marker making a run when it was like that.
Fishing around that dadgum slot doesn't make it easy either. It's a whole 'nother layer of stress when you've thrown back slot fish after slot fish and you're looking at the clock hoping just for an under that'll bump 12" to get a limit. I love fishing Caddo for fun, but it can make for stressful tournament fishing sometimes.
Sounds like you gutted it out with some really nice overs, in spite of rough weather. I'm glad you got a check out of it!  ~c~

There are times I wish I new where to go get 5 under and then go hunting the overs. Sucks not to have a full limit. A one pound under might not help much but it definitely better than weigh less than a limit. When I'm throwing back those slots I just try to keep it in my head that everyone else is fighting it too... But you are definitely right about the additional layer of stress.
