New Crappie Record on Percy Priest Lake

A new lake record has been hit on Percy Priest Lake.

Brian Carper tells FOX 17 News one of his fishing guides, Eric Dickens, took a husband and wife out for their 35th anniversary. Mrs. Beverly Shaw reeled in a crappie that weighed in at a whopping three pounds—hitting a new lake record.

Both white and black crappie live in ponds, lakes, reservoirs and low-gradient streams and rivers, according to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA). They are found throughout Tennessee, except in higher elevation in the East.

Crappie concentrate around brush, fallen trees and stumps, and feed on insects, freshwater shrimp, amphipods and small fish. Although both are common in their Tennessee range, white crappie is more abundant. To help distinguish between the white and black crappie, count the spines (sharp and pointed) at the beginning of the dorsal fin. White crappie have five to six spines and black crappie have seven to eight spines.

That's a giant. I've caught three now that were in the high two's, one even went 2.9 If I can great the three pound mark I'm gonna get a mount to add to the bass wall.
