I broke my flipping stick last year and have been using my back up which broke today. In both situations, I previously hit the rod with the flipping weight that came flying out of the water on hook sets causing damage to the rods and they subsequently broke.

Fortunately, I have a custom FD flipping stick on order! I can't wait! I also need a second flipping stick as I like to flip with 2 different types of baits such as soft plastics and jigs.

What is your favorite flipping stick? I like a 7-6 but am open to other options. Let's here it, you flipping machines. What flipping stick should I consider and look at?

Thanks fellas.

Well, you know I'm partial to Dobyns Rods so that's where my recommendations will fall.

How much are you looking to spend? You're in FL so I'm assuming you want something that can handle heavy cover as well as the occasional light stuff.

Since I believe sensitivity is important especially in a rod of this type my first recommendations would be the (Dobyns) DX 764 C and the DRX 755 C.  If you are looking to spend less there are good options in both the Champ and Kaden lineups that are excellent as well.

The Champ 744 C jig rod special is indeed a special rod. Really, any of the models listed as Flipping models from either line would suit you well IMO. Shorter length rods like the DC 735C or 736C work well and can double as great frog rods too!   :-*

The Kadens are a very underrated series and I believe the KD 765 Flip would suit you well and save you some $$ at the same time.

That's just my $.02

Sorry to hear about your rod. In regards to flipping sticks, I'm partial to Dobyns as well,  ;) and use a Dobyns Sierra 765 flipping stick.

Oh wow, I've not done that but I have hit them on my trolling motor while pitching a heavy weight and damaged the rod enough that it eventually broke at that point.

I am extremely biased and everyone knows that it's Dobyns or nothing for me, so I just don't have experience with other rods to offer a variety of opinions.

The Dobyns 795 is an amazing flipping rod. I can pitch and punch weights to 2 ounces. When it comes to actual pitching it shines at 3/4 ounce weights but pitching a one ounce is smooth as well. When it comes to true flipping, anything goes with this rod.

It's a couple inches longer than your requirement, so it would depend on how rock solid you are on that.

Here is a review I did on the Champion Extreme version REVIEW
It comes in several models now so it would be a pick your poison. With braided line, they are all sensitive.

I've looked at Dobyns a bunch and felt a lot of different models in the hand. Most of their lineup have full grips which I'm not crazy about.

Dobyns has few 7'3" rods that are split grip that can be used for flipping/pitching. But all the "true" flipping sticks come in full handles.

Any other suggestions besides Dobyns?

powell, st croix, shimano...  gloomis... lots of good options out there.
i don't flip/punch nearly as much as you all... have some rods that I use:  powell max 806, powell max 765...  might not have actions that fit your preferences.  they more than meet my needs.and rated for wide range of weights...
I'll flip/cast tubes with 1/8 ounce weights on the 765... but it's rated up to 3 ounces for light swimbaits.
use either rod for frogs, punching as need arises.  toss the bigger spro rats on the 806 and some other 'larger' baits...  will use it for when I feel the need to chase muskies too.

A popular series here at Santee is made my ALX Rods.  Here is a link to have a look.  ALX is a former sponsor on my site and are known to be a great company with solid customer support.  If you call them be sure to talk to Alex the owner of ALX

I have one I just bought.  need to find a reel for it.

it is my first MegaBass rod and I have high hopes for it.  it is the Levante Perfect Pitch.  only 7-3 long, but fish off a kayak so that was what I was looking for.  thus far, I am 50% Dobyns and 50% Phenix rods.

I bought the MegaBass barely used for very little money.  I couldn't pass it up.

Once again Coldfront, I agree with you! Powell is what I use. I think I've got 10 Powell Rods in the Diesel, inferno, and Endurance models. I love every one of them. Just wanted to see what else is out there that I might be missing. Knowing me, I'll probably get another.

Pitchin' is NOT flippin' (I've done videos on this). The rods can be the same, but for TRUE flippin' (and punching) we're talking pure power and stiffness. The 795-style Dobyns are minimum. If you're actually FLIPPIN'. Which most aren't. I've got videos...!

I decided to try a new brand of rods. I've been eyeing a particular brand of rods that my pro buddy uses and really likes. I've tried his flipping stick on the water and really liked it. I haven't pulled the trigger yet so there's time to change my mind . Needless to say, I'm getting a screaming deal on them.  Stay tuned!

I've always loved Powell rods but there's A couple of things that I've noticed . They jacked their prices up on most of their rods. It's also  getting harder to find them in stock at many dealers. Feeling one in the hand before purchasing in my area is about  impossible.  Another issue is that many of their line ups are not offered in the sizes that I'm looking for any more. As an example in their Endurance line, they don't offer a 7-6 flipping stick, they offer a 7-7. I know it's only an inch and not that big of a deal. In their other sizes, they no longer offer a 7-0 MH (704). I was interested in one of those too down the road.

I ended up going with Powell again. At 3.5 oz. all of the other options that I felt in the hand seemed comparably heavier. For all day flipping and pitching the light Powell Rod is a breeze to use.

Thanks for the input.

You gotta go with what feels right. I get it. You have been using Powell rods for long while. Enjoy the new rod.  ~beer~

Now I'm really excited!! I'm going to have to leave all my hard baits at home and break in that stick the right way! 8)
