After it cooled down some(was 102 around 1500) I hit the pond for a couple hours. Wind was howling so tried spinnerbaits and cranks with no luck. Then tried whopper plopper and swimbaits with no luck. Around dusk it finally calmed down and I was throwing the poppin perch and had 1 take it down but I missed. Felt good to get out there and I'll keep at it. Still getting used to seeing mountains all around.

Rudy, tks for sharing the trip and picture with us.

Yep living out West sure is different than the South.  I remember when I got stationed at Ft. Huachuca, AZ.  Wow what a culture shock having grown up in Missouri and Arkansas.
Southern AZ is beautiful etc.  But it took some time to get used to the desert and those mountains.

Thanks for all the comments y'all!

Pat- after talking to some guys at work Sam Diego def has some places to fish! But it's a decent drive for sure.

Donald- I've been there! Was at Tuscon for 2 months and traveled all over the area. Did you ever fish the little lake near the Mexican border? My cell phone started picking up their cell service lol.

Rudy, Not sure about any small lake near the Border.  There were (3) places that I got to fish while stationed there.  (1). Small pond I found up in the Huachuca Mtns. while hiking around that had some small largemouth bass in it. (2).  Parker Canyon Lake on the West side of the Huachuca Mtns. (3). Patagonia Lake State Park.  The only place I actually caught a fish was at that small pond.  I went fishing 3 times and that was it.  I got into hunting for the rest of my time there.

Parker Canyon is the one I'm thinking of! Looked great but never had any hits. Also fished Patagonia but needed a boat there. Fished 4 or 5 of the ponds there in Tucson but only caught 1 bass the whole time.

Bass fishing in Southern AZ isn't that good to start with.  There were some small ponds on post there but they were stocked with trout.  I wasn't into trout fishing back then.  For sure you had to have a boat at both Parker Canyon and Patagonia Lakes.  The time I fish Patagonia Lake we rented a boat from Outdoor Rec there at the post.  It was just a big hassle getting the boat and then driving to and from the lake.
Neither lake was close by and back then there wasn't any gas stations between Huachuca city and either lake.  Once you got close to Patagonia Lake State Park and the town you had the chance to shop etc.
I knew the owner of the Chevron Station there in Huachuca City.  He told me he used to travel down into Mexico and fish those big lakes they have.  He made the trip maybe twice a year.
