I saw a posting with nearly the identical problem dated 2008. Motor starts & runs just fine, but once clearing the buoy line it will not take the throttle. Can only get 1800-2000r's. Bogs as if dragging the dock along with me. Problem started 5 years ago and was intermittent for years. I would stop & fish for 1/2 hour, start back up and it would run like a scalded dog the rest of the day. Problem gradually got more pronounced until now it is constant. I have replaced coils, switchboxes, plugs, all fuel lines and all filters. I am a mechanic, but this one's beating me up. Help???

Cardoctor welcome to Ultimate Bass. Sorry to hear about your outboard. Your question would be better served over on this forum. Hopefully you resolve your outboard issue quickly.  ~beer~

Carddoctor, I believe the post you read was from me.  My exact problem is on a much older motor than yours.  I have a 1991 Johnson Fast Strike 150.  I too have swapped just about everything in the fuel and electrical systems.  One thing you have not mentioned is have you done any work with the fuel injection?  the other thing is have you replaced the Plug wires.

I may still have the problem but won't know until this coming week when I go out and get the old boat wet for the first time in a while.  I agree this is a bizarre problem and unless I get luck in my swap till I drop effort I still don't know what the problem is.  Here is a list of the items I have replaced
Fuel lines including all connectors from the tank to the motor.
Rebuilt all 6 carbs.
Replaced the power pack
Replaced all coils
Replaced both thermostats
New Fuel Filters
Most recently replaced plug wires that appear to have been original or close to it.

Tests here in the driveway on Muffs indicate I may have solved the problem but really can't be sure until I get it in the water for a real test.

I didn't see Fuel Pump in the list of things you have tried?
