Weather: 50 degrees cloudy and windy to 25mph supposed to clear in the afternoon.

We hit the lake at 11 am, dressed in thermals and windproof gear. It sure felt colder than 50.

The launch sucks. The parking lot is dirt/mud as well as the access road coming in. It's a single lane but there is a dock and an outhouse. Very narrow ramp and no place set up to park. Me and one other guy parked in the middle of the dirt lot so at least there was room for people to get around on the outside.

Water temp was 48-49 degrees around the lake. We idled around a bit and were marking fish in 12' of water near points and just off of spawning flats. We dropped on em for a while but no takers.

I could see some lighter bottom transitions in about 5' of water so we set up with the boat in 12-15' and cast shallow cranks up to about 2'. Throwing a Spro rock crawler and an ott slim.  Both in red/craw colors. Keeping contact with the bottom was key. First bass was over 3 lbs. A few casts later we connected with one about 1.5 lbs.

The Otts balsa slim was doing work. We found a flat where the water warmed up to 51.5 and it seemed to make all the difference.  Another couple of drinks and we had em dialed in. Then I wacked my bait on the side of the ultrex and poof see ya $10.

Dug out a DW Verts custom wart that never lets me down and Bang. 4.5 lbs. We were rolling down the bank catching them everywhere the bottom went from muck to pure sand.

The clouds cleared up and the sun came out and the bite shut off like a switch.  We cruised around a bit since it's a new lake to us and I finally found something cool on the side scan. A sunk boat in 30' of water.

A fun 4 hours and a good time trying out a new lake.
