On the bank fishing video I posted a few weeks back, I discussed the scenarios where a weight must be applied to a stickbait. Well,,, today was one of those examples. Wind is howling!! I passed on taking out the big boat, and decided to bank fish for a bit this morning.
I try to use the least amount of weight possible when throwing stickbaits, but with today's wind, it was blowing my worm off target. Coupled with the fact the bite was a bit on the slow side, I needed to add as much weight possible which allowed me to stay with in striking range. I settled with 1/8oz.
Figured out the bass were relating to structure in combination with cover. Managed to catch 6 in under 2 hours so I will chalk that up as a successful outing.  lo

I use weighted VMC Drop Dead EWG hooks in 3/0 or 4/0 size for 5" and 6" Senkos in 1/16th oz. , 3/32nd oz. or 1/8th oz. (depending on conditions) . I also use VMC weighted wacky jig heads in 1/1th oz. or 1/8th oz. again depending on conditions . I probably use a weighted option more than just an unweighted T-Rig or wacky style rig Senkos.

Never leave home without them!  The stick worm and fluke have amazing action with the least weight to get the job done.  Just put one in a swimming pool and watch the different actions you can get by using different your subtle movements.  I can get both to walk the bottom just like a zara spook on the surface.  Put too much weight on and the action goes away quickly.  Deadly here in Florida, and all the way north to the great lakes.  Love both of these baits.  Don't work them too fast unless your in very shallow dense weedy water.
