Our "Slow Trollers" old guys fishing club had a tournament at Englebright last Thursday.  Everyone agreed that fishing was tough! Water temp varied from 64-70 degrees, water was very clear with visibility down to almost 20 feet in some places. We had a pleasant sunny day with light winds blowing upriver.  I fished with my friend Gilbert and we found a stretch of rocky bank up river that had some active fish.  Most were undersized, but I managed to catch 2 that barely touched the 12 inch mark and then 2 more decent ones, biggest was 2 pounds even.  Gilbert caught one that was 1-12.  All were smallmouth caught with ned rigs.  My fish totaled a whole 4 pounds 15 ounces, another fella had 4 for 4 pounds even, and everyone else blanked!  So I was the big winner.  Hey, a win is a win!!
I knew I shoulda re-tied!!

ever notice how when conditions get really tough, certain guys always seem to be at or near the top?

congratulations.  a win IS a win.  and the competition is not really between anglers.  it's against those darn fish...   ~roflmao

had to read that a few times...   ;D
very clever wording...

Haha, I did not mean that the visibility had been more than 20 feet.  Only that you could see rocks, logs and yes, even weeds, that were 20 feet deep.  Light fluorocarbon line was pretty much a necessity.

I was just teasing... Back when I used to fish there Fluoro hadn't been developed. We just down sized our mono. I have an Englebright 4-pound smallmouth that a guy, needing practice mounting, mounted for me. It was caught on 4 pound line. Everyone that visits the house here in Louisiana asks, "what the hell is that?"  ~roflmao

Remember I said he needed practice LOL between that and there aren't any smallmouth within 200 miles of here...
