Anybody getting excited for turkey hunting this spring? I was fortunate to finally pull a permit on one of the really good Wildlife Management Areas and a Special Opportunity Hunt at another. I'm excited!

I've got a new Primos vest to test out along with a couple of new calls. My crew had a custom call made for me for my retirement. It is made with a badge from my agency. It's really cool and sounds amazing. Just what I needed, another turkey call!!

I've never done much spring hunting for them. I've always done really well in the fall though.

I'm curious to see how the turkeys survived the winter here. We had heavy snow on the ground for 6+ weeks here, and that's never good for the animals that need to eat off the ground to survive.

My 1st hunt starts in another week. I plan on scouting when the management area is open for scout days. I like to get in early and get as close as I can to one that is gobbling and see the area that he flies down to. As creatures of habit, he may do the same thing during my hunt.

I came up with an idea. Since I live in an urban area, there's no place close to pattern my shotgun. I'm going fishing this week and will pattern my gun on the lake. I'll find a secluded cove in the woods and tape up a few targets on some over hanging island trees and will never have to step out of the boat!
