Check the battery level in your remote control before remotely driving your boat away from the dock.........

Amazingly, my remote batteries died just as my boat was several yards away from the dock. Luckily it wasn't windy and there was a nice guy on a jet ski close by.

At least I got a decent photo whilst stranded.

Precisely the reason I have yet to try the self launching trick with my ulterra....

If I've used it, I always plug it in when I plug the boat in to recharge. Always prepared.

Nice picture there Steve

I had a situation similar only my rope came undone while launching by my self. I was lucky the wind was blowing and the boat got pushed up next to the dock.

Can you plug in your remote control? Do you have the "link" to the Humminbird remote?

I'll add another tip. Make sure the keeper on your pull cord is tightened down all the way. It has two tiny allen wrench screws that hold the keeper on the end of the cord. If you partially deploy it, you'll see it by following the cable. Use pliers to grab the keeper and pull it out, so you can work on it. You have to use the pliers because it's a pinch point and you are using your hand to keep it partially deployed. If you do not tighten up these allen screws, it will let go at the wrong moment. My moment was yesterday pre-fishing for our season opening next weekend.

The cord let go when my buddy pulled to deploy the motor. We found the slider to release it manually, so we deployed it and fished the spot for an hour or so. The big problem was figuring out how to stow it manually because the slider button was now hidden. You have to use a screwdriver to push the switch manually from the inside, while simultaneously pulling up on the motor head (or have your buddy do it, while you push the slider).

This is a total pain in the ass, which could have been avoided if I had checked it to make sure those screws were tight. This topic should almost have it's own thread I was so pissed off. Don't want it to happen again...

I found out a couple of weeks ago that I need to have an extra battery on hand. My Terrova is an old one, one of the originals as is my I-Pilot, nothing to plug in to charge.
