We have been talking about doing some afternoon/evening fishing for a while and last Wednesday was the day.  Air temp was 97 when we launched at about 5 pm and did cool off some as the sun got lower.  Lake Level is down 63 feet and we are launching from an old road as the concrete ramp is high and dry.  I was thrilled to see they actually have a courtesy dock on the old road this year.  We have had to beach the boat in the past.  Water temp was 83-84 when we started.  Had a nice stain with 2 feet visibility.  We started on a steep point and Kate and I both immediately hooked up, I was using a hula grub on a wobble head, Kate was using a Ned Rig.  Fished down the bank and saw a lot of suspended bait and fish on my graph.  Started throwing a 3XD Red Craw crankbait and caught a couple with that. Kate caught a couple more with the Ned.  Fish were spitting up shad.  I switched to a 3XD in Chartreuse "woops"y Shad, and it was on!  We moved up into the river and there were fish on almost every rocky point, I was calling my shots.  Most of the fish were fat 14-17" spotted bass.  I was disappointed that they would not come up for a top water, I tried for a while with just one strike that missed my spook. We ended up the day back on the main lake where we each caught one more bass and I caught a 14" catfish on the wobble hula.  Declaring our evening fishing a success even though it was pretty scorching hot to begin with.  Nice to find the crankbait bite is also on here.
I knew I shoulda re-tied!!

I wish I could have seen CFW that low just once back in the day, just to mark all the rock piles and drop offs. I used to love to slip out the back gate of the base and fish there. Shoot we used to just hang out and catfish off the dam some nights...
