I have a Gen 2 HDS-12 on the bow of my boat. On a recent trip the screen seemed to just go black.
Later once I got the boat back under cover, I could see that the screen was on but very dimmed. I know that if I hit the power button several times these units will cycle through multiple screen brightness levels. However, pushing the power button now does not do anything, including not powering off the unit.

I have all my units (3 x HDS units and 1 x Garmin) connected to a main battery switch. The only way to shut down my HDS-12 is to cut the full power or to remove the power connector. As soon as I switch the power back on, the HDS-12 powers back on all by itself, but with the very dimmed screen.

All other units are fine.

I am assuming the power button is the main issue here, but the unit is an older Gen 2 unit so I assume any repair will not be possible.

Any thoughts?

Probably not the button.  Most likely a circuit board.  Either way, replacing is cheaper than repairing in most cases.

First I would just do a re update of the last software version (if you can see enough to do it).

There is also a way to do a hard reset. You'll have to google it but pushing the power button and something else at the same time will do a recycle of the system, like clearing cashe on a web browser.

But this is the reason I switched completely to Garmin, Lowrance is probably not going to work with you on this because of it's age. They'll call it "legacy" and might offer a few bucks on an upgrade.

I will give those a try Mike.
