I caught a video from Wired2fish this morning, Gary Klein dropshotting docks, reminded me of when I first tried dropshotting and caught a 3 pounder right off the bat, I was hooked. Like many I used it deep and did pretty well, caught some really nice fish and normally got a limit. Then I started looking at the docks I was going by that knew held fish so I decided to give them a shot, so to speak.
I shortened up my leader and went to lighter weights, I got fish not really that many, so I  went to a heavier weight, my leader length was 12-14 inches and I did better, finally started pulling better and more fish out of the docks. The heavier leader let me get the bait farther under a dock from a farther distance and stayed in place better when I was raising the bait and letting it fall, no other rig lets you free fall a bait repeatedly like this. I noticed Klein was using a longer leader, 20 inches or so. It works and works very well.
Use your favorite bait, rig it any way you want, I like nose hooking or wacky rigging and let your bait do the rise and fall dance, it'll pull fish from farther away and let you fish fast slowly. Move fast, cast ahead, let your bait dance while you're catching up to it.

I'm trying my best to get better at drop shotting. I've never been a very good finesse fisherman lol. My biggest catch so far on a drop shot is this fat little bream.

I've had good results using a Tokyo rig. To me that's just a smaller version of a drop shot. I throw it close to lay downs and stumps. I haven't tried it under docks as much but I will. This gal hit it against am old stump and when I set the hook I've never had such a violent fight. Tokyo rig doesn't seem to twist my line into a 1000 knots. I've got to learn to skip it for the docks. Great tip.
