Lake St. John - Ferriday, LA

Anybody have any suggestions on fishing Lake St. John - where to start, what to throw, etc.?  I was invited up to a camp this coming weekend (April 30th-May 2nd) very near Lake St. John.  The owner suggested to bring my boat to fish some.  I've never been or seen this lake and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions.

Never been there myself but I'm a topwater guy. Once April hits I'll fish topwater all day long. If it's an open water lake then something like a choppo or whopper plopper, maybe a popper. If there is a lot of cover and vegetation then the frog. With the winter we've had everything is a bit behind, you might hit the shad spawn and a small swim bait or swim jig might be the ticket.

I read a little about it last night.  It's a Mississippi River oxbow lake with docks and cypress trees.  It's not very wide or long either.  I think i read it's six miles long and half a mile wide maybe.  I love topwater as well.  I was thinking a choppo/plopper type, squarebill and spinnerbait, and some type of small swimbait around all the cypress trees.  Not sure how deep or if there is any vegetation.

Those oxbow lakes over there are generally DEEP. Don't know why but it's how they formed. Also they generally have a ton of white perch anglers with brush piles to go with them... Might need a long pole for some slabs...
