Out yesterday with a guy who I really enjoy spending time in the boat with:  Captain Jake Davis (midsouthbassguide.com).  He tolerates my incessant 2-year old questions... and managed to put us on some quality fish in spite of my shortcomings.  (Thanks Jake)
I've been out chasing fish on Tim's for a while now and thought to have Jake show me around.  much of what I was up to was confirmed and a few other options were 'learned'.  Some real interesting sections of the lake I've never been in to and a bit of time spent on shaky head technique.  a fun day where I got to learn an awful lot from the legend himself.

Day was supposed to be overcast (and it was).  Supposed to have limited amounts of rain and boy, were they wrong.  about 10 it started to rain and did so for next 3 hours or so.  Wind 'came and went' but was SW at basically 10-13 with some periods where it really gusted and caused a bit of swirling in some of the hollers.
Water temperature:  68°FAir Temperature at daybreak:  62°F up to 75°F at end of day (3PM)Water clarity:  very slight stain to normal (2-3 foot visibility)
shad spawn was 'on' and with smallmouth being in post spawn and largemouth either going to beds or shortly doing so, should have had great action.  we fought hard, valiantly for the fish we got, and got some very solid fish for Tim's.
couple of smallmouth in the 18-19 inch class.  one largemouth that was in the 3 lb class.  was able to pull first SMB out of a treetop with a sammy.  he just lazily followed underneath until I stopped it.  then he smoked it.

picked up a few more in backs of coves dragging shaky heads.
later when the rain came in, found a point where a couple fish came on whopper ploppers.

overall a fun day learning the lake with a good guy.

pro tip:  a rainsuit is only half effective if you leave the bottoms in the truck!

Even with the weather it sounds like a great tip, thanks for sharing the adventure and lessons, the rain suit tip.
