Hatch Latches

Slowly, one-by-one, my Triton locking hatch latches are failing. They are the 2.5" (approx.) locking type.

Just yesterday another lock quit working and is now locked with tackle inside. The key just spins but does not unlock the lock. This is the 3rd or 4th lock to fail, luckily the others failed 'unlocked'.

Q1. How to unlock the it without damaging the surrounding hatch?
Q2. I want to replace all 7 latches on the boat. Is the a place that sells them so that all 7 latches is programmed with just one key (I don't want 7 separate keys)

Are you talking the flush lock about .5"? Order new ones asap. I put the entire boat where one key is all I need. I keep an extra in my wallet(extra KEY you pervs).

If one dies on a locked hatch I heard several cures but I wasn't there to see if it worked. Drill it out is one and the other is dermatologist spray. Freeze it and take a flat punch and hammer with to it. There has to be a better lock out there.

I'll ask our family owned locksmith. They have been at it for decades. I would love better  locks on my Nitro gal.

Is it the lock or the body that is failing?  This happened to me a number of years ago and I just replaced the lock cores.  At that time I could not get keyed alike cores so I still have multiple keys.

The Perko people were quite helpful at the time and perhaps if you have a communication with them a solution could be reached without having to replace the whole lock body unless that is what you want to do.

I can recall how I changed the core but I believe I had a core removal tool but really can't remember.  The memory is not the first thing that fails with us old geezers.

I have been struggling with C&O recently 

I used www.boatoutfitters.com for a recent order and found them to be very fast and supportive. I just emailed them regarding replacement latches and they said that they could arrange for all the latches to be keyed the same 


Now I just need to figure out how to get the locked one opened (I'd make a terrible thief  )

I went to the boat today and took a good ole screwdriver and hammer to the lock and smashed the lock barrel out.
It seems these lockable latches ain't stopping any kind of thief for very long. Glad I also have a Loc-r-bar (home-made version).

All a lock does is keep honest people out. Thieves seem to be able to get into anything because they do not care what kind of damage they do.

So true... f n thieves deserve all the BAD they come across. Wish they still hung em from trees!
