Giant Salvania article by Kiss Country 93.7

Got this in an email and thought it was a good read. Further down in the article you get a link to another website that literally shows they have an "individual plan" for all the lakes in the State regarding salvania. All are in PDF format and have- Hosston, Caddo, Bistineau and others.

I've been in communication with the Biologist from both this region and the region south of here (Black Lake Campti) and both say a heavy cold spell, which isn't out of the question yet (February is our coldest month) is our only hope. Money for spraying just isn't available this year like in the past.

While there have been more fishing licenses sold and more fishing equipment purchased. The funds for paying for the spraying comes from a completely different place and is flat broke.

That's the feds, they don't give the states money unless it's a pollution issue, and then you have to lobby in the capital for two years before that happens...

Louisiana actually finds quite a bit of money to help combat the cause. This year it didn't work out but as the economy gets back to normal the funds will come back. The problem is, IMO, that all the money spent on weed killer isn't very effective. Obviously better than nothing.

Between spraying and draw downs they have been able to keep it back on most lakes but slowly the battle is being lost. As much as I love fishing year round. I'd gladly put the boat on blocks for a month while the lakes freeze over.
