It went better for some than others.  Two days and two different patters.  Aarron Richardson had a good second day with 4 fish that included a 5 and a 4 pounder.  We had a new member that weighed in 7 on Sunday for about 12 pounds.  It only took 15 pounds to win the whole thing.  Seems a lot of other peole there were suffering as well.

Most of my me and my partner's fish came from Alligator Slough and main river points.

I was able to catch 4 decent spots the 1st day down close to the bridge with a white spinner-bait.  My son had 1 the same way.  Didn't find that pattern till around 2pm with a 4pm weighin.  The second day, the water was down about 1 1/2 feet.  I had 7 fish but only 1 keeper.  Should have tried something different but with a shorter day (2pm weighin), weak trolling batteries (plugged into a bad outlet at the hotel and didn't check to verify it was working) and the fact that I was late weighing in the 1st day, I didn't do much running around and put the boat on the trailer 1/2 hour early.

Overall for the two days we had 18 anglers weigh in 64 fish at 101.37 lbs.  1st Day big-fish was 3.03.  2nd day big fish by Aaron was 4.80 lbs.  He had another fish that day that was just over 4 lbs.  Pictures should be on our web site in a couple of days.

Well gentlemen, it seems I had a good time this weekend as a former guest know member. First day was a little rough looking for a pattern but I did fine what they were biting on and a pattern later that morning. I only caught two keeper's and missed 5 or 6 nice ones. The next day was somewhat challenging to duplicate the pattern had to down size my bait. It paid off, had 4 in the boat by 7 am;. 2 more by 10 am after that Fishing slow down caught my last keeper 10 minutes before weight end. I end up with 7 keepers and 4 smaller ones. The pattern stayed true. Just lucky I guess but my partner was not so lucky.

Now you can tell us your secret.

The lake has been exceptional in the past - the past two times I have visited were slow too.  Good job to the winner putting a solid pattern together.  Missed fish - we've all been there.  My formula (which doesn't always work by the way;D) for baits and how to work them during tough fishing conditions - "shorter", "smaller", "slower", and "faster".  When it gets tough - what do you guys do to get the bites??

OK guys. heres the story of Aarons adventure. The first day it took wink and I about 3         hr.  to find fish. Once found I put to in the boat. Then proceded to catch about 15  short fish. Sunday we ran back to the same spot only to have a boat shoot by us and   fish in front .they caught 8 keepers in front of us but we still fared well.
My good fish came off the Hyacinth. The smaller were chasing bait. The sad news is I lost 4 in the 4 to 5 lb range. Also the river had no current so no big Spots.
      Any questions.

I tend to slow down and pitch a plastic to timber when the bite is tough...if that doesn't produce, I try the opposite nd throw a crankbait trying to get a reaction strike.

CediP

sunday was a crank bait bite for me. Bandit 100 The shallow water really messed me up. i was planning to fish a row of boat docks the whole day but fish don't swim on land. Oh by the way Roy you didn't catch all of the fish in alligator slough. i caught my first keeper in there just before i talked to you.

Well know big secret my main search bait was a Brush hog I was using two colors and two different ways to work the bait. First I was trying to isolate where the fish were holding at and what style of bait and color to use. My partner probably did not notice what he was doing to get his first bite but I was watching where and how he got his bite. The first day told me where the fish were holding to the cover and what type of cover but was using to big of a bait so I down size what I was using. I miss some big fish on the river. I was using 20 lbs test and pulling my drag out pretty good and was broke of under the floating mates. On one stretch of the bank I caught 5 fish within 20 minutes. My partner just did not key on how and where I was fishing the bait. I'm sure he will pay attention next time.  Okay, I'll tell you guys, for us the fish were holding on the inside of the creek channel points and edges. I've fish the river many time and that where I always start my search.  OK does anyone know or what to use at Deer point Lake; got a tournament this weekend? I spilled my guts so a little help!

tgraham

If you are going to Deerpoint dynamite would be a good choice.

CediP

deer point is a trick worm bite for me. yellow and white colors. just pull the bait across the pads and let it sink.

Topwater early, then go to that brush hog you were using at Millers.  Dark colors.  weightless stick bait like senko around the grass as well.

Well guys thanks for the infor. But It sucked bad, caught fish Friday and thinking I got a somewhat of a pattern. Then came tournament day and boat malfunction and had to say close to the launch with no luck. However I did catch a pike for the trash fish. well maybe next time. May need to hitch a ride on our next tournament. Any volunteers!!!!!!!!!!!
