My dad just texted and got me a PSA stripped multi lower.  Found a shop that had 3 so he bought them all.  I am having a hard time believing he is retired and no a fixed income  ~roflmao

Anyways, I have lots of options for a build.  I am really not looking at 5.56, just because my dad has some already.  Was thinking of 6.8 build, since the only thing I have for distance is 30.06.  Maybe something I could take out for bigger game (although the .06 is no slouch for big game).

I also thought about the .300 blackout.  Don't know why, but I liked the idea of reduced sound.  But again, I know other ways to reduce sound.

So if you had a lower and could do what you wanted, what would you do?

The 6.8 creed is an interesting round, the 300 blackout is fun but not very effective from what I have heard
and if I was to build another AR I would build one in 9mm  I guess I like to factor in ammo cost and availability.
Just my 2 cents

I built a .308 and use supersonic with a silencer, sounds like a .22 short, 900 yds deadly and proven!

Different uses for different weapons, Lee.
.308 mechanism and barrel, homemade turned stock, homemade can with permanent baffles and removable carbon fill, sounds...like a baby's breath, 700 yds expected  with Nato and 850 yds. with Bill Johnson round, most assuredly deadly but as yet unfired.  You can fire from a bi-pod but built to fire from a sling. A nice present for a nephew when his enlistment in the Corps is over this Fall. The weapon was built by Dr. D but the can was not.

I have always heard a silencer reduces velocity and range.  Is that true?  Need to get the stamp

Mine dropped 1" per 200 yds, @ 900 she still as true as they come, but I have a Burris Optics XTR which helps tremendously! Just add 10 and you can pop a basketball at 900.

Bigger calibers in an AR platform are odd (in my opinion) unless you plan on hunting with them and hunting with an AR is legal in your state. Here in PA, they're only legal for coyote/fox hunting.

So in my opinion, if you want more knockdown/long distance power, buy a hunting rifle. If I had money to blow and I wanted something bigger than 5.56 in an AR, I'd be looking into that new round from Hornady, the 6mm ARC.

Why do you think it is odd, because of the look?  I am just curious, not looking to start a fight.  If they have the effective range and are accurate at the ranges you plan to hunt, then why not?  We have taken large deer up in Michigan with an AR with no problem.  If the gun fits you better than a standard rifle (which I have as well), has less weight (barrel weight is more important) than a standard hunting rifle, I am all for it.  There is a guy at Pew Pew Tactical that has won shooting competitions with an AR 10 build.  I know elsewhere I said I am a traditionalist, and I certainly understand that argument, but I am getting a free AR lower, so why not go big!  ;D

I'm the opposite. I find AR's awkward to hold and shoot compared to a traditional rifle. However I've been shooting traditional rifles my entire life and I just got into AR's in the past year, so your MMV.
