Hi, folks, new member here. I joined to get your input on this question:

What is the best sealant to use for the threads on the control shaft?  The shaft is metal.

I have been told that teflon tape and/or pipe dope won't work because they will melt.
My application is a motorguide 36v motor being used as the propulsion unit in a swim spa.
What should I use?
Thanks in advance.

I was hoping to hear back from a tech friend before replying. I believe he uses a Permatex high temp silicone, but not sure. It could be Loctight.

One guy suggested Loctite RED, but that sounded too permanent to me. I may have to replace the motor again, and I have to separate it from the shaft to mount it.

Don't use RED thread lock. It is absolutely permanent.

As Jim suggested, use a high temp silicon thread sealant.

Thanks for the suggestions.

When I searched for high temp silicon thread sealant I found that
Permatex 80631 has a high temp version (59214) that looks promising. Couldn't find anything specifically mentioning silicone, though. Wondering if the teflon product is as good.

I'm still open to more ideas.
