I see all the rod discussions and purchases on the forum and shake my head.  No one has talked about a Jigger Pole. Probably the simplest, and at times, the most efficient fishing rod anywhere. If you are an older angler it may have been the first rod you fished. In the Ozarks it is used as a stream rod for fishing top water lures. Grizzled old Ozark gents like myself and bo or a true Hillbilly like Dale grew up using them. Even a few Right Coast Slickers, you know them as Rodney and Bud, are old enough to remember. Guys on the Wrong Coast, probably not. The pole doesn't go with the slick hair Hollywood image.
Now, can anyone explain, in English, what the durn I'm talking about? Dale can't answer as he doesn't speak English.

Years ago, I saw a gentleman fishing a jigger pole. He was very successful at catching bass after bass. I was not and still not familiar with this style of fishing but I witnessed how successful it was. The gentleman was using a very long pole, with monofilament tied at the end of it. From what I can remember it looked like he was using a plug or feather jig, and fished it aggressively on the surface of the water.

Sounds like a cane pole in the south.

A poor mans fly rod.

A 12' bream buster with a small cork/hair fly and you can slay the Bream and bass under the right conditions.

If you don't have pieces leftover, you didn't put it back together right...

Lou and Gene got the correct answer. I was taught using top water lures like the Jitterbug and Crazy Crawler. We used a 10-12 foot cane pole or cut limb with the lure tied directly to the pole.  We pulled the lure in figure eights like a Musky angler at the end of his retrieve. By the time I was a teen. it was illegal to use in tournaments in Missouri. It is so efficient, some states outlawed it's use at any time.

I just saw this, my Dad was able to buy those super whippy French fiberglass rods so I didn't have the pleasure. Wizard, do you remember how soft those glass rods were? You could almost tie them into knots, heavy too.

Old Fishermen never die, their rods just go limp.

jigger pole fishing is a method best done when you are by yourself in a boat.  Sit on the front seat with the trolling motor on and weave in and out of the brush line with the long pole out in front of you.  I have seen it done with topwater baits,  spinner baits, and crankbaits.  I have seen a lot of fish caught by this method.
