Worm Tail Spinners

Are they just a gimmick or do they really work? If they do work is there any particular brand that is best, I know they come in willow and colorado blades both gold and silver.

Also if you make your own what are sizes of the components are needed.

There is a name for them , named after the Angler that made them famous when he won an advent using them, but I don't recall what it is.

Watched a Timmy Horton Show where he was using them on Lake Seminole and did well with them swimming them in and over grass.

To me they are just like using a Speedworm only the Spinner can be shiny.

That style of worm goes back to long before my fishing days. Back before the Creme worm to the days of the rubber worm. The worm was pre rigged with the line and hooks (no blade) as one unit and the rubber poured around it. A tag line came from the worm's rear and a panfish sized spinner attached.  A very effective lure, it was one of the first a kid learned to use. The spinner may have helped but the lure but the lure's profile was what sealed the deal.
Bass like food that is long and narrow, This is is a swimming lure that mimics an easy meal.

Wiz, I had a couple of those when I was a kid in the 60's. My dad gave them to me.

They caught a lot of different species of fish!

You want to try a modification on that design? Try replacing the blade with a feathered treble hook. Keep the swivel.

If you wacky rig a Senko style bait you can put one in each end. Either way when you pause the bait the feathers flare out. At times the fish can't resist it, especially if they are following the bait but not committing to it.

Charlie Ingram used to cut the tail off a Fluke style bait and run a line through it with a worm threader. He would attach a feathered treble.

It was called a Charlie's Chicken.

The Poche rig works, is easy to make and is versatile. The rig can used horizontally or vertically.

I have a bunch of the Poche blades but I bought them to use as underspins on 5/0 swimbait hooks to use with Gambler EZ Swimmer and Big EZ. Never used them on a senko as I'd rather get a root canal than fish senkos.

I think those Tail Spinners are like any other lure. They are a gimmick when you aren't catching fish and a great lure when that is what they are chomping on.

I'll throw worms but snekos just dont work for me I dont like using them period.

Oh, they catch fish, I just hate fishing that slow. You'd think I'd love them as my PB came on a watermelon red senko in a neighborhood pond about 9 years ago. That was before I bought a bass boat.

Most guys using those Spinners are putting them on Senkos and swimming them.
Hence why I said to me they are just mimicking a Speedworm.

I have caught fish on Senko's but they are not my favorite way to fish. Sometimes though they will catch fish when nothing else gets a bite.

WOW you Florida guys think fishing a senko is slow try it in 30 fow. The smallies on a couple of lakes up here are suckers for unweighted senkos in deep water.
