Nothing wrong with fishing for catfish. I'm an old cat man myself.  ;D Don't sell them dobyns rods short I'm sure they have some that you can use for catfishing. After all I read reviews and fishing reports about them pulling big bass out of thick grass and pads so I'm sure they have one that would handle catfishing.  ;D Me myself I use a Ugly Stick rod and Shimano spinning reel.

I haven't gone out fishing for catfish in over 50 years.  Back then I only had one rod/reel.  The combo worked for catfish, panfish, bass, pickerel and anything else I was lucky enough to hook.  My reel was a Mitchell 300.  Rod a K-mart special.   :)

I think I need to go for cats again.  Has to better than bass fishing in this area.  I have a Dawai Advantage 2000A on an original Cielo 6'6" MH that should work nicely for catfish in this area.  A pricey rod for catfish, but hasn't seen any use in a long time because anything it can handle I use on a baitcast rod nowadays.  It will give me a chance to use one of the nicest rods I own.  Thanks for opening a thread on catfish.
