The Dog Days are Early

Since the middle of June, we have had some very hot and humid weather.  This weather pattern continues and will most likely last until October.  So, in essence the Dog Days have been with us a whole lot earlier than prior years. 

Local fishing reports are strongly indicating that fishing is not been good lately and this now seems to even include some of the inshore fishing as well.  Up until recently the saltwater species have been plentiful and folks have reported good catches from the shore and the piers.  Recently a Pier angler caught a 100 LB Tarpon that certainly was unusual for pier fishing.  King mackerel have also been hot and now they too seem to have moved on.  Flounder fishing is still ok but certainly slower than just a month ago. 

How is your area doing now that we are deep into summer?

Fishing is good here in my part of Texas. The weather has been hot and humid, but the bass are chasing schools of shad offshore and hoovering up sunfish in the shallows, so all is well here.

I have changed strategy's and fish in the late afternoon and night time hours. The temps are alot more tolerable, and the tactics a bit different and obviously a lot less visual and more auditory and sensory based.

I was going fishing until I walked outside and was hit in the face with this...



Maybe later if we get some cloud cover and even then I'm not sure.

We have similar here.

I'm starting to think I need to give night fishing another try. Never really got into it, but I do like throwing big surface baits like slammers and rats. I'm thinking these should do a number on some of our big, night life-loving ladies.

I smell a rat in this thread.  I like rats over vegetation because of the great blowups that can happen any moment. In Missouri, we have been in late spring until now with summer just starting. The weather has been very moderate but very wet. We reached the yearly rainfall amount several weeks ago and many rivers are high or still in flood.
