Hatchery steelhead retention to open in the Green (Duwamish) River

Action: Allows retention of hatchery steelhead in the Green River when it opens for steelhead fishing Saturday, May 25.

Effective date:  Saturday before Memorial Day until further notice.

Species affected:  Hatchery steelhead.

Location:  Green (Duwamish) River (King County) from an east-west line extending through the southernmost tip of Harbor Island to the Tacoma Municipal Watershed Boundary Marker (1 mile downstream of Tacoma Headworks Dam).

Sections of the Green River listed as closed to fishing for all species in the 2018-19 Sport Fishing Rules pamphlet will remain closed to all fishing.

Reason for action: The Green River was scheduled to be open for catch-and-release steelhead fishing when the steelhead fishery opens May 25. Pre-season forecasts indicate harvestable numbers of hatchery steelhead are available.     

Additional information:  Anglers are allowed to retain up to 2 hatchery steelhead daily per statewide gamefish rules. Steelhead minimum length is 20 inches.
