My fishing partner and I fished the 2019 Lake Talquin Open last Saturday. We had planned on practicing on both Thursday and Friday for the event, but high winds on Friday factored in the decision to stay off the water - winds gusting 30+ mph. On Thursday we went in search of pre-spawn fish, but found only a couple throughout the day. When Saturday arrived we ran to same general areas we fished the weekend prior, but the wind was again strong Saturday and made both fishing and getting around difficult at best. We caught just three keepers - all on popping frogs - in one to two feet of water near lily pads. Winners (Drew Cook, https://www.bassmaster.com/anglers/drew-cook had 5 that went 23+ pounds and second placers had 5 that went 22+ pounds. We had 3 that went 5 pounds even - all coming on popping frogs. I preferred the SPRO Baby Popping Frog in tropical white color. With bass feeding on shad, especially with the shad spawn approaching, this color/size matches up well with shad found in Lake Talquin right now. My partner threw Terminator's Popping Frog. Water temps in upper 60s. Even though we were not as successful as desired on Saturday, we still had a great time hunting for one of those Talquin 10 pounders. We'll get her eventually. On a side note, Kevin's in Tallahassee had Duckett Rods on sale - I bought their last spinning for $50 and my partner picked up two casting for $50 each. There were still rods available - worth a stop if in the market for a new rod. These were 50% off.

Great report Swede.  The wind was kicking down on the south end too this weekend.  Glad you got your boat working again, was it a major fix?  Good luck next time.
