South Lewis County Park Pond to close for kids' fishing event

Action: Closes South Lewis County Park Pond to all fishing, except children 14 years old and younger who are registered for the Jim and Penny Lancaster Fishing Derby.

Effective dates:
•May 9-10, 2019: Entire pond closed to all public fishing.
•May 11, 2019, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Pond closed to public fishing, except children 14 years old and younger participating in the event.
•May 11, 2019, 2 p.m.: Pond reopens to public fishing.

Species affected: All species.

Location: South Lewis County Park Pond in Toledo (Lewis County).

Reason for action: This rule change is necessary to ensure a successful kids' fishing event. Several thousand rainbow trout will be stocked two days prior to the event. This will give the fish time to acclimate to the pond and encourage them to bite during the event.

Other Information: This is the sixth annual Jim and Penny Lancaster Fishing Derby. During the event, only registered kids will be allowed to fish.

Information contacts: Email Kelli Stover at for event registration.
WDFW Contact: Matt Gardner, district fish biologist, 360-906-6746.
Enjoying retirement in the great Pacific Northwest.  I've turned into a fair weather angler.  Why do it today when I can do it tomorrow?
