trying to decide between a shimano slx, daiwa fuego and kastking speed demon. Any advice? Thanks

Ddyyak

I own several tatula sv's and wanted a cheaper reel to fill out an extra rod. Listening to LMG talk about the diawa fuego I bought one last month. For the price it is amazing. The breaking system is spot on. I have several kast king as well. They work fine but the fuego just cast so much better.

Fuego all the way. But the SLX is excellent also. It comes down to which braking system do you like.

I lean towards the SLX but only because I'm a fan of the braking system. However with $20 more you can find a Citica online and be in a very fine machine for the money.

As mentioned, pick your braking system and run with it.

thanks for all the input. I don't know what braking system would be best for me. I'm looking for a dual purpose combo, bass in heavy cover and pike.

If you're casting heavy lures the centrifugal brake will definitely be the best IMO. Now pitching baits to heavy cover, this is where the argument for both centrifugal or magnetic gets deep and I see both sides.

The fuego ct you should be able to find online for less than 100. Great reel in my opinion.
If your budget is 100, you can always upgrade the bearings on it and make it a rocket launcher.
I highly recommend ZPI bearings, my Tatula CT and Tatula Type R have them.

Also the all aluminum frame on them is one of my favorite features. They feel sturdy. No bending or warping while pulling in fish.

keep an eye out or even message sportsman outfitters.  I picked up a bunch of new tatulas from them for around 100$.  Great reels!

I haven't tried all the options, but I do like Shimanos. Had a beater Caenan from a pawn shop that I put through absolute hell. It held up great for a while, especially considering it was used and battered when I got it, and I really did abuse it.
Love my Curado too, but that's out of your price preference.

I was wanting the SLX myself, but once I got my hands on one I couldn't get past the looks. All reviews I've seen, including on this forum, seem to say it's a great reel that fishes above it's price point.

I looked at the Daiwa's. Wanted one for sure and haven't read a negative review.

But ended up getting the Revo X. Just love the looks and the reviews, ended up liking the reel just as much as my Curado. It's not the smoothest and damn sure is noisy out of the box, but it's proven to be a sturdy little thing and is very easy to use.

If you like the Revo, youll love the Daiwa. Dont get me wrong, Revos are a great reel, but lack in the "refinement" category. The Fuego does as well, but still overall better than any Revo (trust me, and many can vouch for me, Ive owned damn near everything  lo ).

Upgrade the bearings on the Fuego to ZPI bearings and youll think you've got one of them high end expensive reels that cast far as heck. It will feel good cause you didn't spend 300+ dollars.
Reel and bearings should cost you no more than 100 if you find the right deal on the reel.

I've got that upgrade on my Tat CT and Tat Type R.

Where do you get the bearings for the upgrade? Do they sell them for a specific reel or do you just have to put them together?
