So Im watching the 2000 FLW Okeechobee show. They interview a fisherman from up North. They ask him what hes using to fish, because its quite the interesting setup. He says its whats called the Yankee Rig, or he said that some might call it the carp rig.

So they have him holding his rod and reel for this, and I had a suspension. As the beaver bait is kinda swinging there, as hes obviously not holding it, my first thought is "drop shot".

Here it is... a 2oz lead boulder sinker at the base, a hook tied on about 2 feet up the line. On the hook was a beaver looking bait. Son of a.... a guy from up North, using this chit down here to punch hydrilla! Whouldntya know it, with 15lb monofilament! But dadgum, the sumbeach got me wanting to do this same thing to try it!

My wife says she is gonna leave me if I go fishing one more time........lord how I will miss that woman.

I have never heard it called a yankee rig. We call it a heavy drop shot.
A black-n-blue beaver on it in Presque Isle bay may just land you an eight pound bass. But mostly 3-4 lbs.
I use 20 lb Senshi.

Old Fishermen never die, their rods just go limp.

It was called a carp rig and a Yankee rig long before the Japanese called it a down shot rig, and the West Coaster called it a drop shot rig.  It was also probably some southerners un-named catfish rig that he learned from his grandfather.
