Finished putting together my 3rd 10/22 this month. One of my 10/22 has a hi-viz front sight and a Leapers 4x scope for squirrel hunting. The next one has a set of tech sights and a bushnell TRS-25 red dot.
This 3rd one has a regular rear sight and a hi-viz front. I am thinking of putting a skinner sight on it.

The one that mounts on the barrel. So far I cannot find the perfect sight,I am considering the skinner as it sits lower on the gun then most other options. Just wondering what type of sights other folks have on theirs and what they would recommend..

Thanks For Looking :)

No 10/22s here. But I'll watch and see what you come up with.  ;)

Ruger 10/22s are a lot of fun. I don't have any today but Both my sons have one that I gave them at age 7. My youngest got serious about competitive shooting for a while. It started with a scope, then a bull barrel, different stock, a Volquartsen trigger, then a better scope. That rifle was like a bass boat. Always puttin' money in it. My oldest was happy with a couple of high capacity mags and crate of Winchester SuperX bullets.  lo

The 10/22 is a great platform, there's an endless supply of aftermarket parts for them and so many different ways to build them.

I got my first 10/22 at a very young age (prefer not to say online) anyways me and my brother weren't allowed scopes untill we took out a squirrel with iron sights, didnt take too long. I wish I could say what I have on there now but I cant think of it, however at one time I had a Simmons 3-9X 32mm that's now on (some may hate this but it's another hobby of mine) my airsoft sniper.

Well guys there are pros and cons to every sight set up I have found. Red dots work good, except in the brightest sunlight. The cons to one of those are they require a battery, they have to be turned on to work, getting one with decent resolution red dot,3 moa or better, can be expensive. That and red dots can be more delicate than irons.

I have tech sights on one of the rugers,my issues with them are the sights stick well up over the bore level, they require a special tool to adjust, and the front sight is not high visibility. The pro are that they do work and are built sturdy enough to last.

What I've done is ordered an nc star scope base ,with groove to see iron sights. Today I had a wild hair,or temporary insanity, and ordered a set of skinner sights. I'll update this thread as this saga unfolds...  lo

Oh the toys they make today. As a kid I had a Mossberg 22, tube loaded from the front 15 rounds, V sight and to make the front sight a bit easier a dab of white paint. I thought I hit the big time when when Dad got me a Bushnell 4X scope for it. At one point I had a 22 with a peep sight, sucker could take the eye of a mouse at 50 yards. You guys are just being manhandled by the gun monkey, you have 2 monkeys on your back. lo lo

I never liked the red dots.  Had one early on (1990's?) and like you said, didn't like it when the battery drained because I was out in the cold up north!

I have to look at the last scope I ordered, but I am thinking it is Barska, that is cheap, but good scope.  My other recommendation is, which sounds like you did, is have see through rings for your scope.  Went out hunting once and went to try to sight something with my scope and the crosshair was tilted 45 degrees!  Never seen that before and made me doubt the accuracy of the scope, but couldn't use the iron sights, because the rings interfered.  Never again!  Still can't figure out how that happened.

I run a skinner on my lever action I use for hog hunting.  I chose the winged model because of the terrain I go through.  Very good and reliable.  They are also very good for fast target acquisition and moving targets.  I would recommend a green fiberoptic front site stands out in bright and low light.

Princeton man, I put volquartsen parts in one 10/22 ,power custom in the next, this last one got a bx-trigger and volquartsen bolt kit.

Oldfart, I have a peep sight of some kind or another on most of my rifles. They just work better for me.

TNDiver, Yeah, batteries are an issue, not so much on a plinker, and I do still have the factory irons on it.

Hog Head, I've heard good things about Skinner sights for years, I finally decided to blow the money on one to see how they work. Hoping for the best.

The 10/22 is a nice gun BUT let's talk sights. I have a 1959 Remington competition .22 with Lyman peep sights. It's definitely accurate. I won an NRA National Smallbore Competition at age 11 while using it. The Lyman sights are steel with the 5 different reticule being plastic. Four target reticule and one reticule for hunting. The Lyman can sight to 100 yards. The .22 is a single shot because of NRA competition rules of the time. When hunting, I used the enhanced yellow reticule. You shoot the critter in the head and don't damage the meat. The older Lyman peep sights are much better than peep sights built today. I prefer them over many of today's scopes.

Wizard, as you say the older steel lyman sights were great. They don't make them anymore so kind of hard to be in consideration for a modern firearm.

Took a good look at bushness trs-25 last night, the "dot" looks more like a cluster. Put in repair ticket with bushnell to see if they'll fix it. Bought cheap bsa red dot off amazon. Always had good luck with bsa.  Skinner sights on schedule to be delivered tomorrow.

You can still find the older Lyman sights. Over 60 years I had lost the post reticule. It is the reticule used in competition. For those not familiar with peep sights, a reticule is the changeable sight pattern located at the firing end of the barrel. Lyman has 5 interchangeable patterns. I found an offer that had all five patterns for $30. You can find the complete sight, both front and rear, on line. The on line price is $200-500 depending on condition. All are used.
Peep sights are very underrated. I could make a .25 inch pattern at 50 foot shooting from a sling.  In 1959, the sights cost more than a Remington competition .22.

Wizard,Nowadays those sights probably cost more a Remington competition .22. I've seen them on evilbay and they are far from cheap.

Skinner sights out for delivery, hope to post pictures, but no idea if it will be today or tomorrow when I do so.

Peep sights were the ultimate sights back in the day, scopes weren't allowed in competition. A version was used on military rifles and could be quite accurate. They are, IMHO, easier to use that a "V" or notch.
