Went out for a bit on Saturday Morning on a couple of local lakes that are on a chain.  I fished two of the three (four really) lakes.

It being summer, I went out intent on fishing the deeper water of the lakes.  I also was head set on not casting until I found something to fish on the Sonar.  The areas of the lake I ended up finding the bait balls have a hard sand bottom and are about 25 feet deep.  Some of the schools are quite big, starting at 10 ft depth and going all the way to 20 ft. and just about as big across.  Some, of course, were smaller.  What ever the case ...

I trolled around a bit until I found my first school of bait and associated bass following them and threw a 4" green pumpkin Havoc grass pig.  I cast here and yonder, fan casting all around the area; but there were no takers.  I stayed in that area for a bit, but it wasn't producing so I moved onto another area on the same lake.

When I moved, I also switched baits. I was now throwing a gold 1/2 oz. lipless crankbait.  I found a couple more schools and caught a couple on it. It did better than the grass pig, but I felt it didn't do good enough so I moved again.

I went to a different lake this time.  Again, I trolled around the deep water until I found schools of bait and the bass following them.  I used a jig and a purple worm to target them this time.  I got a couple of hits but nothing good enough to hook.

I had been out a few hours by this time and there were some schooling bass that start blowing up about 50 yards away so I picked up my crankbait rod and threw the Rapala deep rap I had tied on and I got one.  Threw back in the general area where the bass where blowing up and I get another one.  Now its getting interesting ... I throw back in there and get a third bass in less than 10 min.  This is no accident now.  I think I found the lure and depth they want today!  I was about to go in, but ended up staying out another hour and ended up with about 8 more bass.

I learned you can go out with the best plan for catching them, but they ultimately decide what they want.  Glad I was able to figure out what they wanted Saturday, tomorrow; the hunt begins again.
