Can you ever have enough Dobyns rods?  I stumbled on a deal yesterday that was too good to pass up. Six Dobyns, a mix of Savvys and Furys with reels. I called my two buddies and they threw in and I bought the lot. I took a Savvy 734c and 703C and my buddies split the balance. The Savvy has never received the true accolades do it. Fantastic work horse rods. My buddies were just as excited.  They are switching to all Dobyns and this helped them ad to quickly growing arsenals.  ~c~ ~c~ ~c~

Savvy was a great series, but was missing something. Meantime, they came out with the Sierra, which filled that void of the Savvy.

The only down side to my Savvy 734 is that it's heavy compared to other rods in it's price range. I am sure that's not the case with the Sierra. Other than that the Savvy is a spectacular rod. It's a workhorse for sure, and sensitive to boot. They are very well balanced too.
I just recently upgraded to the Champion 734 though, to reduce weight.

Just info. The Savvy was onboard for a bunch of years. The Sierra is an upgrade with almost the same blank (actions are 99.5% same as Savvy) but with better Fuji guides and better cork.

The main reason for name change is that it lets us know what guides to ship for replacements. If not a guide change I could of just made a running change.

As materials and designs get better and better I'll continue to upgrade the blanks. In fact, I flew home today from Korea and I made some bad a$$ blanks on this trip. Testing results were beyond stupid on breakage with 3 power casting rods hitting 8.57 and breaking, 10.5 No break, and 10.5 No break. We could only test to 10.5 Kilos. Again these numbers are in Kilos ...2.2 per pound...so 18.85, 23.1, and 23.1 pounds for 733C. These were measured with 90 degree angle (high stick). There's lots of other tests like repetitive hook set where we load test with 2000-3000 full load hook sets, 45 degree angle tests with MORE weight, and then fish testing abuse. But the initial testing definitely has my attention. Plus the blank is lighter as well. I'll always look to upgrade rods. I believe it's important for the company plus I like fishing with better shi*  ;D ;D

Very cool information :toot:

I've got to watch Gary purposely try and break a rod and it's amazing that we as anglers ever break one. He tests them beyond what I could ever put one through.

I like better shi... too so keep it up Gary, you got the best rods out here on the lakes.

I concur, can never own enough Dobyns Rods.  Sounds like you and your buddies got a sweet deal.   Just bought a 736CB Glass, my 9th Dobyns Rod, loving it so far.  An awesome chatterbait rod.

If Dobyns rods are to be rated as "good S**t..............well I guess I'll start referring to my garage as     "the latrine."  I'll have to take a laxative so I can order a new Champion 804CB Glass Paul Mueller cranking rod. That my friends, is the s**t !!!!

2 months ago I started my ex addiction by ordering a 746, then I said well having a 743 won't hurt, now I have a 704 DX on the way as well to complement my one champion and savvy's and Sierra. So the answer is no, no you can't.

I believe the savvy was a little lacking in the sensitivity department but was a nice stick. Ive owned many models from the savvy, the coalition and up the the extreme and they are all great rods.

I decided to try a Colt 734c a few month back, and its been great! I just got a FR733c yesterday, and I can see how the potato chip theory is going to apply here. You can't have just one. I'm already eyeing another 734c and a 702sf...... oh boy  :o
