When I was young 5-12 years old I always had a jointed rapala tied on a rod. Pretty much always at least. Always would catch fish. At age 9 (I'm 30 now) so 21 years ago my grandpa took me on my first bass fishing tournament against grown men as his partner. I used a bigger size chartreuse and white jointed rapala that morning and within minutes I had what ended up weighing 3 pounds 6 ounces. And I had another smaller keeper I can't remember it's weight. We took 2nd in that tournament. Well the other day we was fishing me and my grandpa. And we've caught 3 small ones. And for some reason I looked at him and I said you know what I haven't thrown in years and I have no idea why cuz they always caught fish. I said a jointed rapala.i tied one one and i ended up catching quite a few including one around 5 pounds. I have taken this lure since that day to 4 different bodies of water and have caught bass every time. Including this evening I caught 3 and I had a pig jump and spit it at me. 4 plus pounds. I can't believe I buried this bait and stopped using it. does anyone else use these? It's something I rarely seen thrown and I don't think bass at least in my area see it too often or at all. I also took it to a pond and caught 19 bass. Yes I know it's a pond but prior to this day the most I caught at this pond was 4 in an outing lol. it's  varied on the retrieve. Slow reel under water, twitch and pause. Constant twitch and reel, and constant reel slow enough to cause a wake but lure stays at surface back. If anyone hasn't tried this lure or may have forgot about it. Try it out and good luck. Hard to believe I probably haven't fished with this lure in 16 years at all if not a little longer.

I just never really gave them a chance, don't know why. I do know they make a good wake bait.

The jointed Rapala.... blast from the past.  ~c~  I fished with that lure alot in the late 80's and early 90's.

First bass I ever caught was on a solid rapala original. Now I have several rapalas, including one the same size, and a jointed one. One of the stubby ones with the curved bill, a shad rap, and several other jerks.
I've only caught a couple small dinks this past year or so with a jerk, and it was a small Rebel minnow.
I'll always keep one or a few around and will throw them every now and then, but I'd probably have better luck if I were just better at fishing to begin with.

I have a couple of jointed Rapalas I don't really use.

I do throw a rapala Original Floating every time I go out.  I have a rod/reel (733/SV103) just for that setup.
