Fished the third Cross Lake Thursday Evening Tournament 12 April 2018. Warm and extremely windy. Our plan was to head to the north side of the lake and fish wind-blown banks but the 20 mph winds plus with high gusts made that pretty much impossible for a buy with a bad back.

So off to the north side and some woods work. As always shallow is the key, cover water is the next. We were bit on topwater, spinnerbaits, and an occasional soft plastic bite but I couldn't land the soft plastic bites. Someone at weigh in mentioned he was having trouble getting a bass to bite but had plenty of white perch so they were probably crappie hitting my buzz bug.

Water is still pretty high and very stained. Water temp was 68-70 degrees which is amazingly low for this time of year. Still waiting on it to warm up and the shad spawn to get going, then they will really turn on.

We took third place with 15.15 and got a nice check, second place had 17 pounds and First had 18 pounds and got the $2k guarenteed prize. Oh so close yet oh so far, we had one on the way to the boat last night that could have been the difference maker but that's fishing, it's not always catching.

Thanks for the report Mike and I know what you mean by not wanting to fight the ruff water to get to the other spot with a bad back. congratulation on your third place fishing and cashing a check. ~c~ ~c~

This circuit only has six tournaments this year and I'm thinking we are in the top three for AOY points. Would love to take AOY this year, but their are some serious fishermen in it and you have to not only work at it but a lucky bass or two sure doesn't hurt. Every other Thursday, I'll try and keep everyone posted.

You can count yourself in that group of serious fishermen so keep on plugging along and you can do it.  ~bb

Past due on the frog season, this relentless winter is keeping it suppressed.
