I use straight braid with no leader and instead of taking the time to tie on a lure every time I want to switch I just have my braid tied to a snap swivel. Does anyone else do this? Do you think this technique is ok or does it scare fish away? The braid is a white color and the swivel is brass. Can the fish see the line and do they get scared away from it?

jeld take a black sharpie and color the braid.......flat out hides the line in clear to muddy water.

With that said........a fish probaly isn't real concerned about your line.....period.
Even if they can see it.........they don't have the ability to really know what they are actually seeing.

The Sharpie deal is more for YOU and your confidence as opposed to hiding it from a fish.

Snaps......I retie......Palomar is pretty simple knot.....but I know many that use a snap.
I've had challenges with fish 'opening' the snap on a bite.....I'm sure you will get some GREAT suggestions on which snaps work best.

JUST MY OPINION- like he said above. Learn a Palomar knot. It's easy, and you won't be on here some day posting about the BIG 'UN that tore your snap up.

I use snaps only no swivel on cranking stuff but only on cranking stuff.
The rest get a Palomar or a Snell depending on what I'm doing.

I don't think it affects the amount of bites but, your snap is likely to let you down someday. A properly tied palomar knot takes about 10 seconds to tie. Practice it at home while you're watching tv and you'll be able to tie it with your eyes closed.

I use a cross lock style snap on cranks, jerkbaits. I use high quality swivels on carolina rigs, floating worms and fluke/sluggos. The snap allows cranks and jerkbaits to have their full action, they come in different pound test, I use 20 lb test, a big bass here is 6 lbs.Go with what the largest fish you have in your water and add a bit for reliability. Swivels allow you to use baits that would twist the line badly, again, use quality products that will handle the largest fish you could catch.
I'm starting to use bright colored braid because I'm old and the eyes are showing it so I do the magic marker trick.

I remove the split rings from all of my cranks, jerks, and other baits. I use the Norman Lures Speed Clips to make the connections. Speed Clips are smaller than snap swivels and much stronger. The clips weigh no more than the split rings, have no effect the action of the lures, and make changing lures quick and easy.
