Cheap tool for taking out a Backlash

This may have been mentioned before and some of you may know this trick.  I was going to buy one of those baitcast pic tools for getting backlashes out.  I was looking at them and because I'm cheap and a tightwad I thought of a cheaper way to go.  The last trip out I got a backlash, operator error, and gave it a try.  Worked great.
Put a few of the round double ended tooth picks in your tackle bag/box.  Work great as a pic and real cheap.

Thats not a bad idea.

I have a multi tool that I keep clipped to my tackle bag handle. It has a finger nail file with a fairly sharp little curved and pointed end. It has worked well for the ones I knew weren't to bad. I generally hate these type of tools but this one was given to me and has been somewhat handy on the boat. 

If its a real serious one I'm not wasting my fishing time picking one out. Fortunately for me I have many more with me. I'll grab another rod from the locker. I have even swapped another reel on the rod. When I get home and relaxing Ill work on it and usually have much better results than when I am rushing in a hurry to get back fishing.

I do a lot of cussing and swearing to clear the air then use the pic on my little 6$ mini tool, works well!!

I generally use a dental pick hanging from a cord in my boat. Last backlash I got was when I threw a cast and my rod hit my buddies line. That was the mother of all backlashes. I switched rods and later when home I picked it out with my fingernail. It took a while but my motto is: "All backlashes can be picked out". I see them as a fun challenge.

I keep forgetting to buy a pick. But it's very useful when you cast like an ape, like I do.

I normally just pluck them out with my fingers/finger nails.
Yeah, any knot that can be tied can be untied, but there are still some that I just cut off. Especially when/if I notice I'm getting backlashes in the same section of line over and over again. I usually find some damage to that section of line, such as some kinks or fraying.

good idea I have one at home I never usr. I'll put it on my tackle bag when I get home.
