I received a $25 BPS card from my employer's rewards program, time to use it. I decided to expand my repertoire, and bought some shakey heads (1/4 oz Spot Remover Pro Model) for my new Mr. Twister baits I got from the UB newbie contest, some zoom trick and havoc shakey worms, a BPS wacky O ring tool (on sale 5 bucks), and some BPS stickos. All colors are watermelon red and pumpkinseed. I bought some of the VMC weedless Wacky hooks as well.

Any tips for a shakey/wacky neophyte? I think I have the Shakey head technique figured out, slow fishing, used to that with mojo rig fishing, but the wacky seems to have multiple applications. Thanks in advance.  :help:

I like to flip the wacky rigged ones, works well in the grass holes.

Is the wacky primarily fished sort of like a fluke; cast, let sink for a bit, then twitch-twitch-pause type retrieve? (if not flipping)

I've always used the straight tail worms, but I'd bet a fluke style bait would work well  :-*  ~c~

Oh no, Lee, I have some senko style baits, I was referring to the retrieve being like fishing a fluke. If not flipping, after making a cast, is it traditionally left to sink with a long pause, then twitched and paused back?

Ah, yes, I would think a pop up then flutter down would be killer on the slow bite days!  ~c~

Fish as light as you can, you will be surprised at how many bites you will get with light line and jig heads, try going as light as 1/16th of an oz. if your conditions permit.

I'm assuming a spinning outfit with that light a weight?

Yes, I use spinning equipment for baits in this weight
range.

Decided to try my new shakey gear on a short lunch at one of the apartment ponds I fish with a rocky bottom. 4" havoc in watermelon red flake.  Damned if I didn't get first cast jinx! Caught this 12 incher

Fished for another half-hour, no more bites. But I am pleased to have caught one with a new technique! Now on to the other spot, a more weedy pond to try wacky worming.

I have found that for me anyway, generally catch quantity over quality on wacky rigs although have caught a 2.5 on a wacky. Fun rig.
