After seeing some posts on UB about used boat pricing, I decided to look up the value of my rig. My rig is now worth more than when I bought it 7 ears ago. I'm thinking it is because new boat prices have risen so fast. Many models that were $40k in 2010 are approaching $60-70k when purchased new today. What do you folks think?

I would agree Wizard, it explains why used prices are so high now. I think the manufacters are slowly pricing themselves out of buisness.

I believe it is the demand of many Anglers to have their boat equipped in a certain way and be able to perform in a certain way that drives the cost up.  Granted material and overhead costs do impact the price but if you compare it to the boats of say 20 years ago, todays boats have more room, they are bigger, they are faster and their appointments are many times more than years ago.

Although I hate to say back in the day, the pro boat of years ago was limited to 150 hp.  Even then that was to lessen the cost to the pro fishermen.  On top of all that all the electronic doo dads, power poles 36V trollers many more batteries in the boat (requires more space)  Gas Tanks are bigger, Decks are Bigger. Five and ten year warranties etc. On and on and on.

Boats are not the only thing.  Just look at the price of your vehicles as compared to 20 years ago.  Makes me think that some of this is a self inflicted wound.  Some folks have the income to support these prices but many do not.  As long as this is the case Used products will be more in demand and as a result more valuable.  I bet the boat builders made much more profit in the past than they do now.

Wiz tks for starting this post.  After reading the comments I went on line and checked the resale value of my 2004 Stratos.   According to the work up sheet its worth more now than what I paid for it.  I bought it used in 2009.

I know that replacing it new with a similar model and same equipment etc it would cost me $30,000.

New bass boats are expensive for sure.   I was checking out a New Skeeter, Ranger and Triton at our local marine dealer here while back.  Fully loaded to the max with state of the arts electronics, twin power poles the price range depending on brand $50,000 - $75,000.

I personally don't fish enough to pay that kind of money.  But if I was a Touring Pro then I would have the very best I could get.

I know that a 2016 BassCat Jaguar was purchased at LOZ last year for above $90k. Even then, I'm not sure a 22 ft.+ bass boat is big enough for Lake of the Ozarks on many weekends.

Not surprising.  I've never been to LOZ.  Heard lots of stories about Cruisers, Houseboats and other large water craft being on the lake.  We don't have that issue here on Belton or Stillhouse.  Once in a blue moon you'll see a house boat moving around but not very often.  We have lots of ski boats and pontoon boats though.  They'll get up in the river on Belton Lake etc pulling water skiers and tubers.

don't forget the wake boats... those things DESIGNED to put out a standing wave so kids can surf... :surrender:

here on the TN river, we get lots of those big cruisers running along...  big deep hulls... seems like an awful lot of money to spend on something that just gets you from point a to point b and only on sundays.  I guess you can sit on the deck and drink when it's parked... ::)

as for the price of used boats, those electronics tend to drive up the price.. HOWEVER... they're almost always past their prime...  try selling one of those units by itself and see how much them bring.

Packaged with a used boat?  think guys are 'fishing' to pay for the cost of their new, latest greatest 'want'...   ;D

guess that's one of the main reasons I bit the bullet and bought a new aluminum boat.  Wasn't cheap, but I also got all the upgrades I wanted and still came in well under the price of a new glass boat ... although to be fair, with about half the horsepower in the engine.

I noticed quite a few years ago that boat prices were going up into the Neverneverland.  I first noticed when I went to the Bass Show at Timonium and saw the Gambler Ultimate for more money than I could ever spend on another boat.  I have always said the Lowrance on the console looked like an LCD TV it was so big.
I forget where I saw/heard it but one of the pros commented that they had done young bass anglers a disservice by telling them they needed all the expensive stuff just to catch bass.  It looks like pricing on some new 18 footers are starting back down but most still want the aircraft carrier front decks of the 20-20+ ones.
I, among many others, will probably never have another new boat.  Me because I am a Senior but many because they will never afford one.  Some used boats are good deals and some, like some used cars, are someone else's headache.  That is why you hear the sayings:
1. Hole in the water surrounded by wood or fiberglass into which one pours money.
2. Boat = Break out another thousand
3. If it says Marine or RV it is twice the price
4. Boats are 10% work, 90% maintenance and the rest is fun.
I know most of them are bogus but they are a laugh.  The one that is true is number 3.  Owning boats and an RV trailer I can tell you the truth on that one.  I guess that is why I have my third and fourth project boats in the backyard.

I really want a new Charger elite (champion 210) , I hate to spend that kind of money but I doubt they are going to get any cheaper.
I'm sure my current Champion has gone up in value also..
