Ok I am at a loss. I went out this morning and It was at the crack of dawn. Now what has me confused was that instead of me seeing the bass busting shad in groups like I normally see I saw a few random fish jump out of the water..So when I see them randomly jump out here and there and spaced out what should I be throwing. I threw a spinnerbait and a rattle trap and nothing. This is the first year I am taking fishing serious so any tips are helpful.

give a man a fish he eats for a day. But you teach a man to fish and his wife wont see him again.

Water temp??  I like to throw a popper if the temp is right. Squarebill also works for me. I just want something that I can cover a lot of water with. If grass is present on top or under water I change a little. Weightless senko works or a small buzz bait.

You know sometimes it does not matter what you throw at them. They will not bite.

Last night the temps here was at 80 and the bass were on fire. Today it is 20 degrees cooler and the fish will not bite.

So either you throw everything you have at them and find out if anything will work, or you pack it in and wait for another day!

I gave it an hour today and packed it in. I'll come back at them when it warms up again.

Lipless mirrolure, Calcutta swimbaits and sometimes just an old trusty Rapala minnow lure.

The temps here are in the 90s so I know the water is warming up

Try a jerk bait, hard and soft and experiment with speed of retrieve. Also you might try swimming a grub or a small swimbait.

When I see schools of bass busting shad on the surface, I use a lipless crank or a Little George. Something I can throw a long way when they surface. The shad are near the surface and the attacking bass push them to the top. The shad are trapped against the surface and are easy prey. When I see individual blowups like you saw this morning, it tells me the shad are further down in the water column and spread out into much smaller schools. Enough food for a singe bass or two but not enough shad for the bass to school. The key is determining the depth of the small balls of bait. You need electronics to find that. Once you have the depth, picking a lure is much easier. I use sinking lures such as a grub, tube or jigworm for bass down to 15 ft. Below 15 ft., there are lot of choices for lures. I have been assuming you are fishing for suspended bass.

very good answer!  the one other thing that came to mind about individual surface action was the fact that might have been rough fish surfacing.  they can fool ya, when they are here and there and never in reach.
