one rod in particular... the 755.  Medium Heavy, X-fast action

I spent yesterday tossing a Megabass vision 110 on 10# flouro... paired with my workhorse Shimano Chronarch e6...worked like a dream.

this rod is light.  this rod is sensitive.

where I first sat up and took notice was last year using it to throw my Norman DLN.  Typically had issues with 'helicoptering'... not so with the 755.

also use it for working jigs (with the length, good for flip/pitch) with plenty of backbone to stick 'em whether using heavy guage hooks or light wire.

great rod (for me) to toss squrebills down to 1/4 ounce and can handle well the 3/4 deep diving crankbaits.  will give it more of a work out this summer with some of the 10xd cranks.  Expect it to do just fine.

I now own 5 of these rods

I know, right?  what in the heck is wrong with this boy?  using a crankbait rod for jigs, plastics?  JERKBAITS?!?

by the way, it's all about adaptability... I have lower back issues... can walk all day, but standing still - start hurting after about 5 minutes.  So I fish sitting down.  Still handle/like the longer rods.

I'm a huge believer in using same manufacturer across my equipment.  Still hold on to my Cumara for pitching heavier cover..

for those Dobyns fans, I never have tried one... although I hear great things about them and can't imagine anyone standing behind their product better.  Sometimes the rods you have are also driven a bit by timing...

bought my first 806 two years ago from Sportsman's Warehouse thinking I needed a punch rod... and it's gone from there

in my line up I have/use
755 MH Xfast
710
705
806

How do the 3D compare to the older Max series? I see they have the different 2 piece reel seat now. I assume it is comfortable?  I was looking for a MH all purpose jig rod/ texas rig rod. I read the Tackletour review of the Powell Max 683CEF and based on how versatile they said it was I purchased it. Man I Love Love Love that rod. The truth is that rod did everything they say it would and is a dynamite super versatile rod.  How much different is the Max 3D compared to an original Max?

I've never owned one of the original Max series so I can't offer a opinion.
I will say I personally like the reel seat ,especially on the casting rods.
If I were buying one model to do a little bit of everything I would get the 723.
I throw 3/8oz. jigs on it and T-rigs as well as spinnerbaits and buzzbaits.

I guess I made that confusing,  After reading the review I purchased the 683CEF and boy am I glad I did. I can only fit 7 foot rods in my boats rod compartment so that was why I was not looking at the 723.  Anyway that 683 is fantastic. I was just curious since you owned so many Powell's I was hoping you had a Max and a new Max3D to compare them.
I had a phone conversation with the owner of powell a few months back. He had discontinued selling the 683s when he changed over to the Max3D rods. They were not in the 3D Max or Inferno series. After handling the business of my call,  I asked why not. To his credit he said " I goofed up".  He did not think it was needed in the line up. He also said it was the rod that his dealers had chewed his butt off for not offering. Then he asked me how many I wanted, as he had then built but not offered in the catalog yet. LOL  It is really nice to see a business owner listening to his dealers and customers. I believe he makes a great rod.

Yes, Keith a great guy and a good stick also. I'd bet if you wanted a 683 he would come up with one for you.
