OK so there are times where I don't have time to launch on a boat but still want to get off the shore a bit. Now this sounds silly but Walmart has this little 2 man fishing boat with a small trolling motor. Think that would be a good thing to get it's only $550 or would there be a better solution than that?

give a man a fish he eats for a day. But you teach a man to fish and his wife wont see him again.

As long as you're dealing with small water, or very protected portions of bigger waters, the two man rigs can be a lot of fun.

I used to fish out of one a lot and it's a blast when you hook a good fish and it drags you around a bit.

What about a float tube?  I used to fish out of one of those in Oklahoma a lot.  It gives you a whole new perspective, and forces you to slow down and fish what is in front of you. Anyways, just a thought, plus you can get a good custom one for $125-$150.

I have a neighbor who recently got into fishing. His wife gave him a 10' Pelicancraft a couple years ago. It's only been on the water once. We loaded it up and took it to a small reservoir and had a great day of catching. He went home and bought a pontoon boat.  ~roflmao

That was the only time I ever fished out of one. I think it's the only time he's fished out of one. The little 28lb thrust MinnKota did a fine job. We covered the whole place (about 30-40 acres). We're both around the 200lb category.

I'd say 10' is too small for two grown men though. It would be fine for an adult and a child. I'd recommend looking at the 12' models.

Like Mike said, they're fine for small waters. I would have hated riding out wakes from other boats in it or wind driven chop.

I owned a 12' alum , small light , great for 2 guys with a trolling motor ... and you can car-top-it or throw in back of pickup.  With that you could go a few more places and still be plenty safe.

I have also fished out of a bass tender , and a small plastic john boat with others.  I was skeptical at first ... BUT they were quite stable, could still stand up and stretch legs.  Like others have mentioned , I'd limit to smaller bodies of water. Ponds etc ...

A 36lb TM will really get you around too.

Good luck,

I fished out of an aluminum John boat for years. Caught more fish then than I do now just not the same size.

You're talking about a Pond Prowler style boat? I was considering one of them too but wound up getting a 12' aluminum jon boat instead. Came down to price being so similar for me.
One thing is that that aluminum jon is NO FUN to try to load and unload on a pickup bed.

I guess you have to consider how stable those small devices are with two guys on it, and be careful your movements don't throw the other guy in the water.

I've had a 10 foot 2 man for many years...can't count the number of fish I've caught, and in some fairly big waters (Alabama River, etc).  I've fished with other guys in it, and have never had a problem.  I use a 46 lb troller to power it.  It's a heckuva lot less expensive to own than a  big boat, and I get into places other guys just dream about.  Put a set of transom wheels on it and I can take it anywhere.  Just give me a little bit of bank, and I'm in the water.  Used to carry it in the back of a truck, but now I use a small trailer.  I wouldn't trade it for the world...

I've also fished out of a tube...six of one and half dozen of the other as far as catching fish.  Both make you slow down and REALLY fish...and it works.
If it bites, I'll fish for it....

You can probably find a nice Jon boat on Craigslist for less. Thats what I did. Way more durable and stable.
My wife says she is gonna leave me if I go fishing one more time........lord how I will miss that woman.

Reach out to Tressbasser, I think he fishes out of one down here in Florida.

Ditto, paid I think $150 for a 12' Jon then a 5lber thrust TM and battery. Came in less than $550, it was great for two people.

I had no trailer, boat was only 100lbs, I would walk the boat to the back of the truck. Lift the back onto the tail gate, walk up to the front and pick up the front and slide it back in. I did it by my self no worries. It was more of a pain to carry the heavy TM battery to the truck then load the boat lol.

I passed up a deal a couple years ago on a lightweight 1246 jon boat. It had only been used once and was like new. Negotiated the price down to $300 then changed my mind.
