fishing in Florida. I will getting there (West Palm Beach) on Jan 28 and leaving for the cold north on Feb 11. I will be fishing out of my Hobie kayak. Any suggestions of  baits will be most appreciated.

Doc you make what you want lol.

If I only had 3 it would be:

Color:
Watermelon (or pumpkin)
Junebug
black & blue

Baits:
Uvibe (speed worm)
Flipping (beaver or craw)
Plastic swim bait (gambler ez or the like)

Worse comes to worse and bite the vibe tail off.. you have a senko. If you don't catch one on that.. move lol you are in a bad spot lolol

Non-plastics:

HB frog (white or black)
Spinnerbait (white or chartreuse)
Rattle trap

Those baits you should be able to catch something. If not.. buy some shiners lololol

West pretty much nailed it on the head. The only thing I would add would be lizards if fishing urban canals.
My wife says she is gonna leave me if I go fishing one more time........lord how I will miss that woman.

DocIrv

Thanks. Is the hb frog the hard belly frog.

Lots of good suggestions in the previous posts.  But when things get tough go to the 4" senko type stickbait, with a light bullet weight, and let it free fall through the water column.  Change up the cadence from a slow pull, to a jerk off the bottom and free fall back, to a slow walk the dog on the bottom.  Colors, watermelon red, okeechobee, morning dawn, and junebug.  It works everywhere I have fished from Ohio, Georgia. to Florida.  It will catch bass of all size, just place it in front of their face. :-*
(Fish) - P/B 11.4, Everglades, L67, L28, Little 67, Alligator Alley, Sawgrass, Holey Land, Loxahatchee, Ida, Osbourne, Okeechobee, Weston Lakes. Broward and Dade Canals.

One suggestion is there are some big gators around, bigger then that kayak.  Be careful if its a warm sunny day, and your out there alone.  They have been more aggressive the last few years.

Good point George. I think Doc should have the plastics dept covered...  ;)

I agree on the lizards,i have family in w.palm and one year I hired a guide to stick marsh, very windy day and tough fishing. But 6 and 7 inch lizards I brought with me saved the day,had to lend some to the guide--good luck

Not really. I know of a lake near where I am staying but other than that I have one day planned to go out with another yakker for reds and snook on the gulf side. I was hoping to go to Stick Marsh but a lot of guys said it was too infested with big gators so they spooked me on that one.

Doc worse case scenario get some shiners and a circle hook and have a good time.

FloridaFishinFool

No one mentioned these as yet...

Calcutta flashfoil swimbaits and Zoom swimming flukes!

I said plastic swimbait's in my first post :-)

I prefer Gambler EZ swimmers over Zoom myself. Hides the hook way better.

Reds and Snooks are fun too. Good luck!

I would imagine that would change the lures needed? No?  I've not fished for reds or snook so I would not know.

Yes. You can use live bait or artificials.
Artificials looking like pilchards, shrimp, pinfish or silver mullets are very effective.

Don'tcha want to see a big Florida strain bass blow up on a topwater? With all the tannic water, gold is a good topwater color.  Gold for a spinnerbait wheel is hard to beat.
