Adopt a Family

Before we get into which family Ultimate Bass Adopted this Christmas I want to give a huge shout out to all the Ultimate Bass members. You all are awesome! Raising $1320 in a very short time and during a time when our personal funds are short because of our own holiday spending. THANK YOU!

In future years, I will start the fund raising sooner and we'll develop a way for everyone to recommend / suggest a family in need for the Ultimate Bass Adopt A Family donation.

Our Family this year is one that many of you know. You've talked with him, laughed with him and cried with him through some very tough times this year.

Back in May his fishing season started with a blown outboard motor that effectively took his fishing away from him for the year. Soon after that he lost a very dear family member. And not long after that he had to go to the Emergency Room which started his path down a road that will require extreme therapy and years of rehab to straighten out and repair multiple fractures in his back.

Having to wear and external fixture to immobilize his back, neck and head to allow the fractured vertebrae to heal, Rick has no certain time line on how long it will take to heal but has been told to expect a year to two years. He is unable to drive, unable to go to work, even simple tasks around the house are virtually impossible.

His wife Tammy and neighbors have taken care of him and help tremendously with daily and weekly chores such as mowing the lawn and fixing things around the house.

Rick and Tammy already have a large family with grandchildren, and are expecting a new grandson in late February. Being unable to work, Rick's benefits are slowly dwindling as he fights the VA to gain the benefits he deserves from his tour of duty.

Rick is a humble man and believes that you work for what you get. Unfortunately, he cannot work because of his back and the equipment they are using to help heal him. He is going to fight us all the way on excepting being even nominated for this program and being given the funds to make sure Tammy, his kids, and grandkids have a great Christmas and he can get the things he needs to make life a little easier around the house.

Everyone please say an extra prayer for Rick Olson (BigWrench) and his family this Christmas!!

I seem to recall not too long ago, Rick stepping up on his own and doing this very thing for a family down his way after the father involved in a terrible motor vehicle accident. I don't remember all the details but there's a post on here somewhere that details it.

It's just good karma! Merry Christmas Rick!! ~c~ ~c~ ~c~

As I was reading this, I quickly figured out who you were talking about. All I can say is I couldn't be happier to hear where it's going!

While you were describing Ricks condition, the one thing that sticks out in my mind more than anything is when you were describing the external brace. If you look back in the thread where Rick posted a picture of it, there was still a big ass smile on his face!  ;D
I'm sure it's not easy, and there are decent days and bad days, but a guy that can smile through that is OK in my book.

Merry Christmas Rick and family. God Bless!

I owe each and everyone of you more than I can say , I was completely shocked and had no idea this was intended for us. I was just hoping to get in on the LSCR drawing and help some family out in the process, since y'all have already done so much for us .  I don't know what to say other than THANK YOU ALL !!!
I will be talking to each of you soon to personally thank you !  I definitely would rather be on the giving side and have always believed that hard work and kindness will pay off, friends will always be there for you. And this just proves that in more ways than one !
I'm glad this will be a part of our site each year and you can bet I'll be right up in the middle of the planning for another family every year .
We love you all and IGY6 Brothers !
Stop by the Garage and let me know if you have Maintenance issues that you need assistance with.

Just awesome Brother!!!

We all know that you would do anything for anyone at anytime and if it was the last dime in your pocket you would give it to whoever needed it.

THAT, my friend is called generosity and it comes back around to those that need it; when they need it!!

U all are absolutely the best!   We had no idea u were even thinking of our family as the ones in need.  Lol.  I told Bigwrench that we definitely needed to donate to this cause as I thought it was a great idea and we wanted to do what we could to help as well.  Little did I know that it would be coming back to us!   Again, u all r the best and we thank u all for ur love and support to our family!   ❤️❤️

We are soooooooooooooooooo proud to be a part of the UB family the friends we have made here are life long and some of the best we have ever had.  It didn't matter who this was awarded to when we joined in with the band of brothers/sisters to make it happen but I must admit that find out it was the Olson crew just made our hearts swell a little more.

D & I wanted to wish both Rick and Tammy a very very Merry Christmas and wish you all the best in 2017   here's to each day being better then the last ~beer~
