Spent some time yesterday & today pouring & painting some more jig heads. The one is another style I had not poured before, so I tried it with a couple of different hooks. I also painted them with some white powder paint & a "watermelon" powder paint. I had not used the watermelon, knew I had it here & finally found it.  ::)

The jigs turned out good, but some of my pics not so good.  ;PHO)

Underspin Jig. Had these poured, just needed painting & assembly. Owner 5/0 hook.

Swim Jig, watermelon. 5/0, 3/8 oz.

Painted a Shad Dart I had in a box with some other jig heads.

Another Swim Jig Head. 5/0, 1/2 oz.

Brush Jig, had these poured already too, just needed to paint them. 3/8 oz.

White Swim Jig, 5/0 Gamakatsu hook.

Same Swim Jig head, but on a longer shank 6/0 hook & no weed guard. 1/4, 3/8 & 1/2 oz.

Worm Nose Jig

Ball / Round Head on a #2 Owner Hook.

Another white Swim Jig. 6/0

Arkie or Banana style on Red Mustad 3/0 Ultra Point. I poured some of these primarily for fishing the coast.  :)

Darter Heads, Mustad Ultra Point Hooks.

Another Swim Jig, Black fiber guard. 4/0 Mustad Ultra Point.

Looking good, thanks for sharing!
Who makes the hooks with the barb on the outside? Reminds me of the trebles on the Megabass Vision 110 I got recently.

bigjim5589

Thanks folks! I appreciate the comments!  ;D

Cortman, I'm not sure who made them. I bought a bunch of them from an Ebay seller several years ago. They're teflon coated, and Eagle Claw made some teflon coated hooks, so they're a possible EC hook. However, VMC made some hooks with that type of point & barb, so it's possible it's a VMC hook. I suspect someone had them made, and they're were not a "stock" hook.

I have a couple of boxes of VMC spinnerbait hooks that have that style point & barb. They're discontinued, but I've never had any issue with them. I've used them to make spinnerbaits & buzz baits, and for flies that I used for Striped Bass. They look funny, but I don't worry about that either. I always try to keep an open mind about such things!  :-*

Doesn't matter to me either way who made them, I like the hook, as it's strong & sharp. The teflon is a gimmick IMO, but it does seem to keep them from rusting quickly.  :)

I actually like that "out barb" style too. I have some of the VMC Barbarian trebles that have that type of "out" barb, and really like them. Seems that bass don't throw them as easily as hooks with the barb on the inside.  ;)

Curious as to how many coats of paint did you use and do you use a final clear coat?

bigjim5589

Wizard, it's powder paint, one coat & I use a fluid bed. No clear on them, but I have used epoxy & glitter over the paint in the past. Adds a little more flash & wear surface, plus I like how it looks!  lo

Here's a hair jig I've tied that has epoxy & glitter over the powder paint. Hard to see the glitter because of glare on the jig, but it's there.

Not sure what Jim uses but I powder coat mine, no clear coat or second coat needed when cured and very tough. Only need 1 coat.

Thanks Rodney! I'm using powder paint. I set the heat about 425 F, and once the jigs get hot, dip them.

I then hang them on a rack until I get a bunch, then put them all in the oven, set the timer for 10 minutes & they cure at about 400 degrees.

Yes, it's a very tough coating.  :)

If you're doing a lot of jigs I wouldn't mess with those 4 ounce jars, too da!! much money. You can buy it by the pound from Powder By the Pound, they have a bazillion colors and the service is good. Another supplier recommended by a lot of the pourers on Tackleunderground is CS Coatings. It saves you a lot of money buying it by the pound.

Rodney, I've bought from Powder By The Pound, based on a previous post you had made mentioning them.
