Next week we are heading south to do some salt water fishing for two days and I am wanting to buy a long sleeve shirt to help protect me from the sun. Are any of these shirts actually cool?

Not sure of the brand, but every one of the vented back "tournament shirts" I have tried is hot as hell to me and I always end up just taking them off by 10am, even in only mildly hot temps. I put on a t shirt I keep in the storage compartment and it is always much cooler than these vented shirts.

It seems like I once seen some REALLY thin "fishing" shirts that seemed extremely lightweight, but cannot remember where I seen them or what brand they were.

What do you like? Any suggestions?

Spend the money for Columbia button up style vented ones. Its like wearing nothing at all.
My wife says she is gonna leave me if I go fishing one more time........lord how I will miss that woman.

Bassadict69,

I have found the Under Armour fishing shirts to be very cool,  I also like the HUK shirts, their patterns are great.  I went to the long sleeve shirt a year or so ago and will not go back when I am out fishing.

I do prefer to get a shirt a little big.  I think you can get the UA at Academy.  I have seen the HUK shirts around town at several places.

Omnifreeze, or UA fishing shirts.

I recently picked up a UA fishing shirt (The pull over kind) and it's so far been about the coolest.

Hey Bassadict -

If you wear size XL, then we've got a real deal for you. Checkout the Simms Ultralight LS UPF 30 Sun Shirt. At $29.99, you really can't find a better deal out there. As for the BEST sun shirt, well that's tricky - Columbia's Omnifreeze Shirts are truly an awesome innovation. When you sweat, the reaction with the fabric cools down the moisture and it feels like a few drips of ice water.

As someone holding a degree in textiles and clothing science, even I have no idea how they do it, my best guess is some type of magic. Regardless, they will probably be the coolest shirt you'll find.

The Simms stuff is awesome and they can have it to you quick.

I also use the Under Amour (UA)

Both are great, but UA is pricey

Less than Sims lol. Especially for those of us paying retail.

I just buy the "Reel Fishing" aka offbrand ones at Bealls when they are on sale. I buy the thin material ones not the thick ones you mave have bought.

I also where a buff and it isn't bad. It's hot out regardless so taking your shirt off is only increasing sun exposure. Living in FL my while life I don't need that lol I have seen a lot of people have stuff burned off thier face from cancerous skin problems. So I always where sunscreen if I am outside.

I was at a Columbia outlet store when the manager gave me a sample sleeve of the Omni freeze fabric. I put it on my arm and he sprayed it with a water bottle. It was like someone turned on the A/C. I bought a shirt and really love it. Pick whatever style you like but make sure it's Omni freeze fabric.

Go Noles!

I will be trying a couple of the freeze shirts...what is the differrence in the PFG shirt and one that isn't?

I think the Columbia PFG is a more of an athletic fit than the other styles because it is for "performance fishing"

Another vote for the Columbia Omni Freeze and Under Armor shirts.
They are pricey, but last a long time.

I have never tried the "freeze" shirts only the spf ones. All this talk about one and I picked one up. With a bday gift card I got. I am excited to see how it works.

I ordered two of the Omni Freeze shirts today after looking at them at Bass Pro! I do not remember Bass Pro's price, but I found them on Amazon for $30 each with free shipping! Love me some Amazon!
