I think the boat gremlin is still active.  I told you about the winch strap, gonna replace it today.  But on the river today about an hour in to our fishing, the clamp that holds the trolling motor in place broke.

Was just starting back into a creek and "Clang".  Thought I hit something but upon inspection I had not hit anything and was in 9 feet of water.  Upon closer inspection I noticed the clamp that has the tightening knob that holds the rubber fittings around the trolling motor shaft broke.  Again this is yet another thing one would not expect.  I happen to have a spare gator mount and will take a clamp off of it if I can find it in my messy garage.

Its always something I guess.

Wow Bud. You got some kind of luck. Good side is these are easy fixes that come with an older boat. You'll find that gremlin and run him off, hopefully soon :surrender:

How often do those break? Bud, you may want to take that boat by a church or seek out a Shaman.  :surrender:

Bud I hate to hear your still having issues, I had the same thing happen on one of my Motorguides , I also have another MG at the house that it is starting to break also. What Model is yours ? So far My MK hasn't had any issues  ~sweat

I happen to have a brand new motor guide gator mount and have decided to just get rid of the old one and put on the new one.   That has turned out to be a bit of a cluster but I will get it.  It turns out that there are two stress at the very front of the mount.  I can't get to them behind the bow panel.  It turns out that where they put the holes it just isn't possible.  Even if I had looooooooon skinny arms there just isn't any access to the nuts under the bow.  kinda one of those WTF deals.  I assure you when I put on the new one it will be done correctly.

Bud,
Man you need to find that Gremlin and deal with his sorry azz  ~shade  It is strange how all of sudden stuff starts breaking though.  Hope this is the last thing that breaks on you.  I appreciate you posting all of this because now I'll go and double check all my stuff.

I had one of those locking clamps break last year on my transom mount Motor Guide.  It was a PIB to switch out.  I got it done thought.

Got the new gator mount installed.  Man what a pain in the butt.  As you know my boat is old and has been owned by others.  Don't know how many others but after taking off the old motor guide mount one could see that it is not the first rodeo for this kind of replacement.  There were so many holes drilled in the past the the boat looked like it had been in a drive by shooting.

Anyhow......Had to drill three new holes cause not all the holes lined up.  The next time some one tells me the mounts are universal I will just laugh in their face.  The finished product looks ok but like all of you I know whats under there and it bothers the heck out of me.

Sorry for your luck Bud. Older boats can be a real pain !! Keep at her!!!

I know what you mean with the holes for the trolling motor.  The Ranger I bought had a whole bunch of them under the mounted motor.  I found out which ones I could use with the motor I am using and filled the rest with two part epoxy.  I used a piece of masking tape to keep the epoxy from running out.

Winch strap is now replaced.  Total install time about 30 minutes.  Now I have to wonder what other little doo dad can break.

May as well replace the trolling motor rope while your at it.  With all of the problems your having, that's bound to come into the equation.
