Went to the lake this evening to try a new prop. I have noticed this before but it just seemed alot more noticeable this evening.

At an idle with the boat in gear, there is a rumbly vibration kind of sound. If I give it just a little gas, it seems to go away. It does it in forward & reverse.

Reckon I may have damaged something running a messed up aluminum prop? Anyone have any ideas what this sounds like?

It might be that your motor is just missing at idle. When was the last time you changed plugs? Also check your plug wires. Just a simple place to start.

Plugs were changed this past spring. Wires I think are original. I will give that a try. Man...That would make my day!!!!

I really am no outboard mechanic but I have seen a lot of problems, look who you are talking too  :(

But it really sounds like you are just missing and causing your motor to run rough until you get into it and clear it out. Now if it does it everytime then you might have fouled a plug or have a carb that is running to lean. A lean running carb will cause your motor to run hot and not get the oil it needs and that could be dangerous. Not to spoil your night but there are several small things that could cause this kind of problem.

I know what it is....The "dawg gear" (not sure of the correct terminology) is "bumping". It is due to the weight of the ss prop. I work with a guy that changed props in his 90 hp force for the same reason. I don't know if its is detrimental or not to the engine though. He was running a tempest plus at the time and switched to a PT prop.....Dave
  Otherwise how did it run????

If you notice that there is a clunk when you shift from nuetrul to forward & or reverse and its a chatter tye rattle with vibration its your lower ring gear and will only get worse the more you run it.  If its not chattering or shifting with a clunk then do like Mike said and get a tune-up.

No chattering or clunking, so hopefully it's not TOO bad!

NGK plugs are the best!  Smith's has them if your interested.

I talked to Travis Boat Center this morning & described it to him. He said it is normal for the Force's to do that. He asked was it more noticeable with the heavier s/s prop. It was...

My thoughts are that the "response" will be of higher value than the "pay".
